I am attempting to come to korea during the middle of November and was just wondering if this is likely or am i dreaming. I have the degree and transcripts, and expect to have everthing else for the E2 ready for the next few weeks, also I am sorting through jobs with a few suitable ones. So i am basically wondering how long the process has taken yourselves from getting organized to the actual departure?

Have you seen the currency exchange rate? Might want to think of that before coming to Korea.

For some mystical reason the Korean Consulate in Quebec couldn't figure out that I'd sent my papers in. Then they couldn't find them, and then the couldn't figure out that the reason they were post marked for JANUARY was because I had to be in Korea at the end of February and they wanted 2 weeks ahead of time to process stuff. They finally finished screwing around long enough to get me an interview. I had my boss call them in Korean, I called in English, we both explained the case in our respective languages telling them that I was LATE for work and they still wanted to pencil me in for 2 weeks later. I told them I'd just fly to Quebec and it was finally over.

IF you have all the required documentation ready AND you have found a job
THEN the process takes 12-21 days documents in the mail to boarding the plane.

The delays occur when people do not have all the required documents (immigration is pretty strict and very unforgiving when it comes to alternatives). Until you have the required documentation, looking for a job is usually futile. Doing RESEARCH about working in Korea is a good thing to spend your time on.

READ THE FAQs.
LEARN what the differences are between a kindy and evening hakwon.
Learn about the differences between hakwon, private school and public school.
Learn about the difficulties that people have experienced in all 3 types of jobs. No one type is perfect although I do admit that I have a bias toward the public school system with the extra perks that you don't get in a hakwon but it can be difficult for a newbie since there are fewer "western style supports".

Finding a job (depending on your personal requirements and demands) can take from 1 to 90 days.

Some people take the 1st job offer they get and are here in 3 weeks.
Some people are more discerning and hold out for the best they can get and take 3 months to find one.

Work for a Wonderland or an ecc; you'll get to Korea faster. And request to earn less than 2 mil/month.

Les Quebecois have always marched to their own drummer, even before the days of Ren Lvesque ... lol...

Toronto can be just as big a pain-in-the-ass for for different reasons.

Move to the west coast. Vancouver is usually pretty laid back. Wink

But there's so very little snow in the winter and I don't want the military to have to shovel my driveway if we get 3cm.

Well, then maybe you should request to work on Saturdays. And request to work at least 160 classes per month. And demand to have more students in your classrooms.

I've worked 1 Saturday since I've been here. It was time and a half... and it was actually only 2 hours of Saturday. They paid for my meal. I have less than 160 classes a month. I actually only work about 100 hours a month. I'm not REQUIRED to be at the school when I'm not teaching as so long as I have my prep work done and there's nothing important happening I'm free.
My school has a cap of 10 students per class. I only teach 1 class that has more than 7 kids. Even if I wanted to I couldn't have more than 10/ class.

I'm not sure where you get all of your facts but next time you argue with someone make sure they don't know more than you. Especially when you're arguing about the place where they work. Also there's a hierarchy of legitimate sources from information and forums where people have vendettas is somewhere close to the Shakespeare cliff notes sites that have porn ads.
