so i havent gotten to sit through all the debate yet, been watching in parts. did anyone else watch and catch this bit. to be honest i only saw this thru the colbert report. but...i dunno it just seems like a strange thing to say to represent your foreign policy knowledge. any thoughts on this? opinions? hey is it even true? does it matter? just thought it might be interesting to somebody

I watched the whole debate...and that was probably the most laughable thing that was said.

Is it true? Who knows.

Does it matter? F no.

The funniest thing is that he attributed North Korean "oppression" to being short. Unbelievable.

What's wrong with it? I bet it's true. Didn't you watch North play South in Soccer? Geez... easily 3 inches.

I actually just read an article by The Economist that stated the same thing, so that is in fact true. I didn't see the debate so I don't know exactly what the context was for bringing up the information, but he was likely making the point that most North Koreans are so oppressed that due to malnutrition they are shorter than their southern counterparts.

What, exactly, is the relevance of their height to the conduct of our foreign policy? "28 percent of North Koreans have Fu Man Chu mustaches, I'll apply appropriate measures to deal with this facial hair in my conduct of the nuclear negotiations."

I mean, we know they're poor Johnny. Make a frickin point.

north koreans eat just rice and gimchi so they're malnourished, the size of Koreans traditionally

south koreans eat various forms of meat and poultry (including eggs), consume milk products (including yogurt) and fresh fruits and grains

this is not rocket science

No kidding. In fact, look at the stature of South Koreans from one generation to the next.
You can take it one step further and gernalize that any culture who's diet changes to one more healthy gains in stature.

S Koreans are easily the tallest in eastern Asia, so it's not a stretch to assume their poorly nourished northern brethren are shorter.

Back in '95 I had a class of adult men and I (all 5'8" of me) was the tallest in the room. I am now almost always the shortest one. The around-30 year old Korean males are taller than me. Something like 1 in 3 of the women are now taller than me. Crying or Very sad

In my experience it is who can get an adequate number of verbs into a sentence, as it were.

For a year I worked in a 'school' for the mentally retarded. Being well-hung was not a problem for many of them. I'm not at all sure you have a point that does you credit.

I was just going to say the same thing. Look at the kids nowadays. There was never a middle school kid taller than me. Well, excepting those with pituitary gland problems. Now there are many 5 8, even 5.10 (even pre-)pubescent students.
Maybe it's more like a mutation than good food.
