Isn't it "remember, remember the fifth of November, the gunpowder treason and plot"?

Maybe he's talking about the Feast Day for Pope Zachary. Or the death of Guy Lombardo?

In colonial Boston, Mass. it was 'celebrated' as Beat Up a Catholic Day. The North End Boys and the South End Boys (apprentices and shop workers) got tanked up on rum toddies or whatever and went out with clubs looking for each other when they couldn't find any convenient Catholics to work their mayhem on. Perhaps that's what the OP had in mind.

Bonfire Night is an important night in the UK. It gives people in council estates a legitimate reason to burn old mattresses and set fire to cars.

Sensible policies for a happier Boston.
