Hi everyone,

I am an American preparing to move to Seoul. I understand that the dollar is very strong against the Won. Because of this, in what form should I bring money with me to Seoul? I have read so many different opinions on this board. Most say that traveler's checks are inconvenient. Should I use my bank card and try to find an international ATM? Or, should I convert my money to Won in the States and carry it with me during my tripthat sounds a bit dangerous. If you have any thoughts, please share your advice with me.

Also, after I arrive I Seoul, I would like to join a gym and buy a cell phone as soon as possible. Would I be able to use a Bank of America Master Card to do so?

Speaking of the Won, how do you think that the Won will do in the upcoming months? When will it regain some of its former strength against the dollar? Will it ever regain its strength?

Thanks for your help.

I would say hang onto your cash and change it when you get here... Will probably get a better rate (although change a bit... maybe 100 or 200 bucks at the airport or bank before you get here just to have some when you step off of the plane)

As for the Won getting stronger? I wouldn't bet on it... Looks like we're on a downward turn for at least the next little while (especially with the US headed into recession territory... Sure the US dollar might go down a bit because of it, but with Korea exporting so much to the US the Won is going to follow it down...)
