I've got a friend coming up for a visit from Ulsan, and he goes on and on about the streetwalkers down there. Is there any place I can take him here in Seoul (I have a car) to check out the street walkers? Itaewon? Seoul Station? etc?

Yes his friend is coming from Ulsan so he can sample that famous Seoul hot-dokk.

Everyone knows Ulsan hot-dokk tastes like ass!

From what I understand, there are no streetwalkers in Seoul. You can walk through the red light districts though; despite all the hooplah about the crackdowns, the RLD at Yongsan is still open (was curious and wandered through today; window shopping only Cool )

Had this conversation with a friend over beers tonight as to why there are no street walkers in Korea. In my five years here and outside of Songtan and Itaewon, I have seen a total of one; a 30-something woman in Hwajeong late one night, obviously short of a rent/hagwon payment, hoping to make it up by catching a drunken salary man on the way home. The only reason we could both conceivably see for the lack of street hookers was that the prevalence of prostitution here precludes such a form, and as such you are limited to rub-and-tugs, room salons, anmas and hyo gye shils.

I laughed my ass off at this for a good 30 seconds.

There's usually a toothless halmoni lurking around Itaewon station at night - and daytime too now that I come to think of it. Not sure if she's worth a trip up from Ulsan. Confused

Yeah, that old lady by Itaewon station is the only one I've ever seen. I think she manages to hide herself from the cops by being atrociously old and ugly.
