I don't have the foggiest clue why Detroit is on the list as it's miserable and is the last place a single young to middle age opportunity seeker with common sense would go. Albuquerque seems to be the smartest choice if you're not rich nor in a good job (yet).

It appears most of these places are the worst places to be looking for a job and building a career, but they are cool except Detroit. Detroit blows. No offense intended towards those of you from Detroit. The job market, culture, and crime rate in Detroit is a nightmare best avoided. Places like Miami and San Francisco are awesome, but seem to only be suitable if running in the executive caliber of the job market otherwise you're washing dishes, cooking, and doing other low paying work just to barely survive. People who go to these places do it for the cool active lifestyle but in reality they present loneliness and an economic challenge unless going there for a good job. These are all washing dishes and doing low paying service work kind of towns. St. Louis, where I'm from, is a smaller version of them, but not on the list. It's more like Detroit, but also has elements of New Orleans. Most of the jobs pay less than $10 an hour with little or no benefits and it's very competitive as can be.
