any ideas what the bill could run with a hosp stay that did not require surgery just antibiotics and IV's along with labs.
possibly ER time for a few hrs. at most. |

If the patient didn't stay in a room and just was in the ER, ran some blood work and an IV or two it shouldn't be over $50US and even that would be on the expensive end. Health care in Korea is dirt cheap. |

If person did NOT have medical insurance $500 ~ $1000. |

Less than a million.... probably closer to 400k at a public hospital.
As a comparison, ACL surgury and a week in hospital cost 1 million with NHIC medical. |

I think my bill was something around 20-25K in 1998 for ACL surgery in Alaska. Fortunately I was under my parents' health insurance as government employees (teachers) and additional coverage for the football league I was playing in at the time. Ended up costing around 400 bucks out of pocket.
I'm friends with a brain surgeon here, and he says intravascular surgery (in which they stick the "tools" through an artery on your hip and go through your artery on a wire!) for the brain costs something around 3 million won, with it being divided 70/30 between patient and insurance. A similar surgery in the states would run USD 50K+ I imagine... |
