I've noticed the tone on Dave's has become more pleasant recently. Is that because eslcafe is attracting a different type of person?
Less posts about Koreans Vs. Western culture, more about the economy. Maybe the number of negatively toned posts are equal, but I don't feel as cloudy any more after reading this forum. |

Is a person that writes 'troll' in responce to a post not inviting negative comments?
At least give a reason why you think I'm a troll, so that I can respond. The foreigner community in Korea, on the whole, has been distinguished by its negative bias towards Korea. I hope that's changing.
In Thailand, etc. the attitude amongst foreigners seems to be markedly different. That's all. |

Let me write that another way, the correct way.

Isn't there a rule somewhere that says trolls can't start their own thread? I am not calling the OP a troll, but the idea of a troll to me is someone who replies to a post without good intentions and is intentionally trying to steer the thread in an obviously undesired direction.
Spammers on the other hand do start threads. |

Just because there are more Koreans on this board wouldn't stop me from talking about legitimate complaints about Korea, and I'd welcome their comments.
What would you have us do, make it so you need a "Foreigner ID number" to read and post here? That's exactly what they do on their forums, and I hate it! |

Maybe the financial crisis has people focused on more important things rather than "Wah! An ajuma pushed me on the bus!".
I think for the most part the things that piss me off in Korea are the same things that piss me off at home. Maybe more people are coming to similar conclusions. |

This might be true, I can't say. But I had a good university job in Korea, and my life back in Canada is still better. I get treated with respect, which is the main thing. |

Some of the new mods are also quick to squelch any discussion that might offend one or two Koreans on the peninsula. |

I must agree that I am personally more concerned with my personal financial situation that problems I might be having in Korea. As I am thinking about grad school next fall, I wonder where the money will come from. I could care less about some adjumma running into me at Homeplus. I read those posts sometimes for a laugh, but I haven't fallen into the hatred for Koreans or the bad day posts that are prevalent here sometimes. I lurked around here for years on occasion before coming to Korea.
I also wonder about the ban that is in place regarding new users. Perhaps many of these people who recently arrived in Korea would be complaining as it occurred to them if they could sign up for the forum. Is the ban still in place? I know it was still around a few days ago. |

Tfunk, you've been reading the forum too closely. That's a bad thing.
Vanislander, Dave's never had a point. |

the point of coming here for years was to have a place apart from Koreans in which to vent and express our own opinions and feelings, unchecked and unfiltered (except for swears).
Nowadays it's so PC that we have to watch what we say about Koreans and Korea. *beep* that.
Many said this place was overmoderated a couple of years ago but that pales with the sort of thread-yanking and korean counterposting that's going on these days. |
