| Ok, so who ahs done the orientation before and can give me a bit of an idea what to expect. Four days and 3 nights all seems a bit much. What actually happens? Any comments or hlep would be greatfully recieved. |

No problem. Glad you liked it. I couldn't find much on the internet about these orientations, even though hundreds of people had been through them before me. I thought there'd be plenty of blog entries on it, but I couldn't find much. So that's why I went into as much details as I could.
I've been a bit slack of late with writing entries. I'll try and write something interesting this weekend.
You've been here two years and you still need to go to the orientation? Oh man, you have my sympathies. |

I read your review. I definitely agree, but not on all of the points.
In retrospect I realized I didn't like Ng's speech. When I was there I was captivated as much as the next person, but afterwards it struck me as being one-sided, preachy and over the top. The guy made it sound like the only way to be a good teacher was to do things his way, which meant scrubbing toilets with the students and working twelve hour days.
Then there was the whole "you need faith" remark, referring to his belief in god, which I personally found very discrediting. He did have a lot of very good points though, I didn't hate him or anything. It just felt like watching a Michael Moore movie where you love it but don't feel quite right, and then start realizing what's wrong with it once you're in the car on the way home.
That aside, the orientation is really good. If you don't get anything out of the lectures, then you'll get something out of being surrounded by other people in your shoes. You'll see what the average English teacher is like. For me it was both surprising in positive and negative ways.
Just go in with an open mind and all will be alright. |

| Thanks for that also. Yeah I am still not really looking forward to it. I have been teaching in Hagwons for a bit over two years and have just started in a middle school yesterday and found out the orientation is on the 14th lol. My wife an I dont even move into our appartment until next week. Never mind I will go with an open mind and maybe take something fresh away from the experience. Cheers |

| Do they divide teachers up depending on what city they are from, such as bucheon or bundang. or is it just lecture after lecture and no group work? |

That only happens at the Tug of War competition... Bucheon always wins |

At the last orientation they did, but this was mostly just for roll-call and for a group project on the last day.
Most of the time it will just be lectures, with no group work. |

| So, what are the details regarding this orientation? I'm supposed to be going but the only thing I know so far is that it is Oct. 14-17. Does anyone know where it's going to be held? |
