|

Has anyone done this? I have most of the documents such as a countersigned photo and application but it says i need my birth certificate too. Is this still the case even though i can give them my current passport. Hopefully the stuff i have will be sufficient but i have a feeling that problems will arise.
Also why are there so many Korean people working in the British Embassy? I'm betting the Brits working in the Korean Embassy in the UK are few and far between. Is it a language thing maybe? |

I didn't need to give them my birth certificate when I had mine renewed.. in fact, I am not sure where my birth certificate is.. haha..
Have you visited the embassy website?
Give them a call is your best bet, cos that's what I did and they said they didnt need my BC. |

Tzechuk you've previously helped me regarding another matter. I'm very grateful.
I think i will go to the embassy tomorrow before work with the documents i have now. It's terribly difficult to find someone in Korea who has known you for 2 years or more and is in an acceptable profession to countersign the photo and application. Hopefully the fact i have my current passport will trump the other requirements.
I also don't know where my birth certificate is.
Thanks again. |

I did this about 2 years ago, it's really easy.
You will need two passport photos of yourself which have been signed and dated by someone you know, you also have to write something on the back of them about it really being you. The web site say it should be someone you have know for at least a few years but they didn't really care.
You can download a form from the embassy web site that you need to fill in and just put that and your old passport and photos in the post and wait two weeks.
I didn't need my birth certificate when I did it.
Really easy and surprisingly hassle free.

Oh.. but you must have your photos signed.
It doesn't have to be a British person, it can be anyone from the commonwealth.. So someone from Canada, Oz, NZ etc. will do.
P.s. teacher is a perfectly acceptable profession |

Actually, when I had my photos signed it was my then Korean boss who did it.
So it doesn't need to be someone from the commonwealth. |

Two possibilities here:
(a) Get a zillion different answers here; and
(b) ask the embassy, who, after all, will be doing the renewal. |

Thank you all for your answers and advice. Thankfully the answers have all been generally consistent. I have the photos signed and have the forms completed. The photos have been signed and stamped by my headteacher. I have also checked the embassy website for business hours and will go there in person tomorrow morning to ensure everything is present and correct. Wish me luck. |

I just went to the embassy with my old passport, some photos, and my birth certificate. They processed it really quickly, the people at the embassy were really helpful too. |

I had mine renewed last year, sent the forms, signed pictures and old passport to the embassy and got it back in under 2 weeks. Very simple. I've never spoken to an English person at the embassy either, but they've always been very helpful. |

Went this morning and gave all the documents i mentioned in my previous post. The woman said that was sufficient and i could pick it up after the 2nd of December. Very efficient so i was chuffed to pieces.
The price, in answer to another poster, was 250,000won. A pretty penny, if i do say so myself, but necessary.
I also noticed that alot of the people who came into the embassy where actually Korean, which may explain the prevalence of Koreans at the front desk. It would have been nice to see at least one British face though. Perhaps i'll apply for a job there.
Thanks again for the help. |
