I've aplied for a criminal record check with the RCMP, but it's been almost two months and still not mailed to me yet.
I'm getting worried because another person got his in the mail four weeks later.
Is there another way to apply for a CRC remotely from here? Will it be accepted by the Embassy and ultimately by Korean immigration? |

I feel your pain. Best way is to contact the municipal police. No prints and its mailed out prompt. Takes about 12-14 days. BUT you need a person there to go on your behalf as far as I know. |

This guy can get them for you pretty quickly. He uses a police station in Nova Scotia. You'll get an electronic version by e-mail within a day and he can ship them to you by courier and you'll get them in about a week.

You'll need to get it notarized here by the Canadian embassy in Seoul. That'll cost you another 50 bucks or so. Just in case you're worried that immigration won't accept it...they took mine with no problems. |

Try contacting the local police branch in the city that you resided last when you were in Canada. From what I gather, each municipality is different with regards as how they release their criminal record information. The RCMP states that they take over 120 days to process a criminal record request.
I got mine from Hamilton Police. They made me send 2 pieces of id notarized by a Korean notary along with a form downloaded from their website and accompanied with a letter written by me.
They sent the record directly to me after they had received everything. |

I e-mailed scanned copies of 2 pieces of ID and personal info like my eye color, dob, etc. to a family member in Canada. They then took it to the Commissioner of Oaths to have it sworn in since this is done without fingerprints. This was then brought to IFS (International Fingerprint Services) who then sent it to Charlottetown to be processed. That takes 4 business days. Then it was sent to me. After receiving this criminal certificate (that's what it was called), I then took it to the embassy to swear an affidavit.
The costs were 75 bucks to IFS, shipping, and 75 bucks to the embassy. If a family member is quick on getting to the Commissioner of Oaths, the whole process can take a week or less. |

I went through the paralegal firm mentioned above with no hassles and would be the choice I would recommend if you need it yesterday.

Just a warning in advance-- starting on September 1st, 2008 immigration services in some, or possibly all areas of Korea, requires the 'sensitive sectors' check (or whatever it's called) in addition to the usual, so make sure you can get that.
If you have someone back home with power of attorney, you can go into your local municipal station and get it done possibly on that very day, or maybe overnight, and then get someone back home to pick it up and send it to you... there's a fee for that, though. |
