It sounds interesting, in a mildly intriguing kind of way.
I can understand why anyone would want to come to this fair city of Gwangju, but, why go to that 'Poland' place?
I mean, will there be an adequate supply of Cass, Hite, or OB available there?!!!
And, when would that be? What is that all about? |

| Becausse Poland has more Culture in its pinky then Korea has in an entire country. Eastern European countries are downright treasure troves that haven't been really discovered. Well eexcept for the Checck republic. |

Julian,
The main prize for best presentation on one of the two topics
is 'support' for a trip to Poland -
to attend the 2008 UNFCCC conference -
from December 1st-12th.
You can read more about it here. |

Well I guess that counts me out of the grand prize 'cos I'll be busy being a good teacher and testing all my students over those couple of weeks when the trip to Poland is scheduled, if I'm not studying anyway.
I know a couple of graduate students who might be able to do something with this though, foreign and Korean. And maybe I should send in an application anyway in the hopes of one of the good second or third place cash prizes.
Even if there's no prize involved it'd be nice to have an all-expenses paid vacation in Gwangju anyway. (Everyone says it has the best food in the country.) And I've never been on the city-wide tour either; isn't the Biennale on these days? Lots to do with the May 18 massacre in 1980 around town too apparently.
As for the Poland thing though, there seems to be more information here:
http://unfccc.int/meetings/cop_14/items/4481.php
It seems to be something for serious greenies, and involves hanging out with something like 8000 other serious greenies from around the world for the sake of brain-storming how to make Kyoto and all that CO2 stuff happen more effectively. |

That's right. It's a kind of situation where you can't really lose. Just writing up a couple of pages can get you a three day paid vacation hanging out with a good group of chill people and great food in an interesting place down south, with the added bonus that you might end up scoring a bunch of cash or that trip overseas.
The topic about changes in Asia might be really good for anyone who has travelled around Asia. Maybe you have recent personal photos of places like Ankor Watt (sp?!) you can compare with older ones from magazines or internet sites, or maybe recent personal fishing stories to compare with older reports of greater numbers of catch, or something like that. That's the creative challenge involved.
So, if anyone here is a student and has a creative idea, or, has a student and a creative idea, or, even better, knows a student with a creative idea of their own, it's still quite possible to put together a couple of pages in the next couple of days.
And, according to recent reports there are still very few people who have applied so far which means there's a greater chance of gaining a prize. |
