Is this normal? If so, how long do these things take? If not, how long should I wait before I file a complaint?
And who do I even file a complaint to? GEPIK itself? Labor board? |
the pension refund should come from the government pension office, not your school (you have to apply for it and show them your air ticket out of korea... if you're still in korea, i don't think you can get the refund just quite yet). |

Taxes should have gone to the National Tax Service. Wait till you (or your school on your behalf) file your return in Jan. for the refund.
Pension gets refunded by the National pension office when you leave Korea.
Apply through them for the refund. You need to show your exit ticket as well as your ARC and passport.
You only get the 300k settlement allowance once so you won't be getting it from the new school.
Your salary for October should be paid today (if you have the usual payday of the 25th in your contract.)
Your old school is responsible to either refund your 900k deposit or forward it to the new school (so the new school won't take one from you).
Sooo...
minus 2.1 mil from pension
+
2.1 mil due at close of business today (tomorrow is the pay-date)
+
minus .5 mil to the tax man
+
minus .9 mil (unless your new school tries to take the deposit too)
+
minus .3 mil (cause you already had a settlement allowance).

I guess you mean severance not pension refund. I would demand an immediate answer. I would expect within one hour an exact answer on date and time of pay. I would not teach until I got it.
I worked in a hospital in Shanghai and they did this not sure routine every month. I just quit as begging for pay that is owed to you is just not right. It makes you feel like the bad guy when it is their control drama that they are playing out. |

Refusing to teach is not a good idea unless the circumstances are drastic. If the problem ever gets as far as a Labor Board hearing, the employer will be claiming you broke the contract and your actions will be looked upon unfavorably by the board. Don't give the employer any amunition.
You will get the money owed to you. Unfortunately, they seem to be draging their heels. |

If they don't pay, I don't play. Simple as that. The school I worked at in July didn't pay for June, so I just waited at the bank closest to the school for the money to come in. I told them, when I see the money in my account I will rush over to school and continue teaching. Until then, I was just going to wait there.
They couldn't go to my apartment, cause I wasn't there 
Within 1 hour, the money was in my account and I was back at school. |

I'm happy to no longer be an unhappy teacher at GEPIK. Almost every week, and I do mean every week, was filled with late pay and other antics at my school. I'm not saying that GEPIK was the total problem. Though, I think they should be more upfront in supporting their teachers.
No more GEPIK! Now, my pay is always on time. My salary is much more and at school much less. It's also nice to take a short walk to school versus a 40 minute bus ride that I had to pay for. |

What a *beep*. I'm sure he gets paid on the right day.
Tell your school that they can pay you out of a different account and re-pay themselves when the paperwork goes through. Payday is payday. |

| I met some teachers who were happy with their schools and GEPIK. I have met some who were not. I know 2 teachers who got their letter of release and moved on. Of the two, one of the teachers has returned to her home country. The other teacher told me he is happy with his new job and hasn't encountered any problems at the 7 month point. |

It sounds like the OP got stuck at a couple of really bad schools.
I had a school try to withhold my deposit and such but I had my other school call the first and get it for me. The OP's second school figured it worked for the first and are trying it too.
I am sure that they haven't followed Labor Law (provided you a copy and explained it to you which will result in fines of about 10,000,000; 5 mil. per incident). Although you may not actually proceed, this can make for useful leverage. But you can't tell them exactly what you have on them or they can satisfy the requirements and you'll have to use the leverage below.
If the above doesn't work, then you'll have to file a lawsuit for your severance pay, which is required by Labor Law. Navigating the legal maze, so I hear, can be more complex than back home. I have heard that public schools usually settle in order to prevent "loosing face."
