Just went there today and get my shiny new card. The staff spoke English and it was pretty painless to set up my account. You need you ARC, PP and another piece of ID from home like your driver's license.
The bank is across the street from Mcdonalds, next to KEB |

I don't think anyone has a problem getting an international ATM card. It's whether the card will actually work overseas that's the problem. |

| Why would I state the inane? Like if I got a card, but it didn't work overseas why would I put a post of this sort up? |

Can't answer that question. I just got it for traveling...I have all my other set up at a different bank. |

Until you have actually USED the card abroad, you can safely assume that it won't.
Don't depend on the card on your next trip. Have a backup plan.
There have been MANY who have thought they could use their "international card" overseas and much to their dismay found out the hard way that this was in fact NOT the case.
Have a plan "B" and do NOT trust that your card will work in another country.

My wife's card and my Nonghyup cards are both Maestro/Cirrus cards for overseas use.
Do they work

The definitive answer to the question of whether or not you can get
an operational international debit card is this: one can only answer
yes, if and only if, you receive a card and successfully use it internationally.
The sad truth is, having a shiny new card in your hand, along with the chirpy assurances of the teller, means absolutely nothing.
My first bank was Hana, and I got a card no sweat. I used it in Philippines, smiles allaround. My second bank was Nonghyup. I was first told that I could not, as a foreigner, have an international atm card.
I gave the WTF speech, and after many uncomfortable phone calls to somebody and flipping through a massive book of rules (?), I got her to acquiesce in giving me an international atm card.
She even did the elaborate procedure of double checking the card in some secret international atm card activator (?).
Long story short, the card didn�t work. Heed the advice, and have a back up source of funds. End of story. |

You've had the card all of one day. Where exactly have you flown to make sure it actually works in another country? Answer: you haven't gone anywhere and don't actually know if it works or not. So your question is back to you: why would you put up a post like this if you didn't know it works overseas? |

Let's just say that Standard Chartered is the best of the bunch. I went to basically all the major banks in Korea (Hana, Shinhan, KB, Nonghyup, IBK, KEB), both in Cheonan and all the ones that were in Itaewon and with the exception of the Nonghyup in Cheonan, they all refused to give me the card. The NH would give me the card, but would not activate it for overseas use.
But when I went to SC, they gave it to me without an issue. And they didn't look at me like I had 3 heads or something for even asking for it. It was pretty refreshing after so many rejections at ALL the other places. Of course I'll have a back-up plan for traveling this summer but I hope it works.
I thought someone...anyone out there might appreciate what I've learned?  Maybe not? Sorry for posting.  Perhaps I'll refrain from posting anything that could be remotely helpful to anyone out there in the future. |

| I wouldn't believe this until you try it overseas. I went to Standard Charter and opened an account a month ago. They assured me when filling out the paper work I could have an international debit card. The system would not allow them to issue it. They made some calls and told me, "foreigners can not have international debit cards." Hope it works for you, but I would definitely suggest having a backup supply of funds. |

Nothing wrong with helping people, but you framed it incorrectly. you should have said SC gave you the card without hassle, but you don't know yet if it works internationally. That would be more helpful as it gives all the facts. |
