Sadly I need to convert some won to dollars for the holiday trip home. Does anyone know the typical difference in rates between wiring and buying dollars here and taking them home with me?

It all depends on your particular bank. Check with them.

I've never seen buying cash cheaper than a wire rate at the same bank.

It's possible that cash rate at one bank might be better than the wire rate at another.

I've heard good things about the money traders in Itaewon, but you might get some counterfeit paper. Be careful.
