ok, so this topic has almost been beaten to death,,...but i am looking for some clear facts here:
1.are all foreign teachers (esp. Canadians) required to pay into the pension plan here in Korea?
2. Are all employers (incl. hagwons) required to pay into pension also?
3. Where is there written documentation/proof of this in English? (that I can show my boss)
4. Where is the main pension office located? (my local one didn't help me at all) |

Pension is MANDATORY and NOT optional.
Call them and ask for yourself.

If you are registered as an employee at the tax office, then it is mandatory that both you and the boss pay into the pension plan. If he isn't, you can file a complaint with NPS and they will FORCE him to do so.
If you are registered as an independent contractor, then the boss is off the hook not only for pension, but also severance and medical, and you are on the hook for higher taxes.
Main pension office is located at the Chamsil stadium station area. Phone number 1355. |

So if I were to make a call... I'd have to fight to speak English or find someone who speaks Korean to fight on my behalf. |
