The 9 month thing was/is to transfer your visa from one employer to another and not for the issuance of a new visa.
IF you have had a previous E2 and do NOT have a black mark in your immigration file you never needed to return home; you just needed to do a simple visa run.
IF you have a black mark in your immigration file you will need to return home for the interview.

In September, I did a school transfer and visa extension without needing to do a visa run. It took about 1.5 months to get all the paperwork lined up and 2 weeks after for immigration to finish the processing.
Yes, you do have to wait the 9 months. Also, your new contract has to show you will be employed right after your are released from the previous school. |

thanks ttompatz! so i would still need to cancel my current visa at immigration with a letter of release, right?
also, do you think another public school would frown upon me not completing my contract at this PS? i read that SMOE didn't like hiring people that have left other PS contracts early on another thread |
