So here is my situation: I'm going back to my home for my best friend's wedding from December 17-22 (A Wednesday through a Monday). My school (an afterschool program), however, is leaving it up to me to find someone to teach while I'm gone. They said they need a native teacher, but all my friends have jobs that don't give them those days off.
I'm willing to pay the person who replaces me (how much, I don't know...I don't know what the going rate for four hours of teaching a day for four days is), but the Job Board here makes me pay to post anything about it and I doubt I'd get any responses anyway.
So I need some suggestions. Basically, what should I do? Where should I advertise? Has anyone ever faced this situation? Any ideas?
I understand that this board doesn't allow someone advertising an opening, and although I've put some specific information in there about that, trying to get someone to work for me isn't my aim with this post. Of course if you think you CAN, I'd be willing to hear about it, but PM or email me (robbjkjones at gmail dot com), but don't post anything in here about working for me because I don't want a moderator to delete this. I REALLY need suggestions on what to do.
Update: For the record, my school has told me that they have processes that allow E-2s to do substitute work like this.

Legally only an F2, F4 or F5 can fill in for you. So start asking around to see if you can find one. Start with the people you know who have been here the longest.
Be warned though, it'll most likely cost you more than your wages for those days. |

I appreciate it, my school, though, has mentioned nothing about visa status of my substitute.
Everyone I know immediately is an E-2, but I'll definitely ask them to try and find an F. Thanks a lot. |

It is illegal for an E1/E2/E7 to sub for you for those days (especially for an afterschool program).
IF you are lucky you will find someone (F-class) for about double what you get paid (remember, they don't get the other benefits that you are supposed to be getting). 40-50k won per class if you are lucky. 100k + per class if you are unlucky.

Sorry mate, but E-2's cannot sub. If they get caught they are in violation of their visa, and looking at anything from a slap-on the wrist , to a fine or even deportation. That's why it's damn near impossible to get a sub here in Korea.
Your school didn't mention it because they either a) they don't care or b) they don't know.
Either way if your sub gets caught they'll just toss the blame on you and him. |

Can`t an E2 get permission from his/her employer & immigration (which then notes that permission on the ARC) to work at a 2nd employer`s? |

In theory, yes.... in practice... probably not for 4 days and probably not possible for an after-school program (since the employer is not the legal employer / sponsor).

| Post under jobs offered on workandplay.co.kr. Lots of F-series holders look for gigs there, and that's where I found my sub. |

The discussion on whether or not E-2s are allowed to work as substitutes isn't the reason for this thread, so I'd appreciate it if you didn't have it here. It's now clear that an E-2 may or may not be allowed, so what was the point of saying it? The only thing that could have been accomplished by it's discussion was dissuading someone on an E-2 Visa from throwing their hat in the ring to help me.
The visa status of my subsitute hasn't been discussed by my employer and me so regardless of your visa, if you think you can help, let me know and I'll tell them and we'll see how it goes. If you don't think you can help, but know a way to help me find someone (that's the point of this thread) then please pass it along. If you can't help and if you don't know of a way you can help, please be considerate of the thread topic and my situation here, and move on.

So your after school program is willing to accept an illegal teacher/sub?
Why didn't you just say so.
You can usually find a bunch of illegals looking for work on the Seoul City help wanted website / board. You can usually find similar on the English Spectrum website as well.
