JongnoGuru made an interesting thread that caught my attention (I die in the year 2070 at the tender age of 91...think that's good enough. lol Laughing ). That thread is what leads me to ask the question you all see in the subject line.

This thread isn't meant to be an all our war about religion, etc. Rather, it's meant to see what you guys think happens to us after death? Feel free to express any ideas or opinions. Here is my own:

I believe that after death, we go to either Heaven or Hell. Going to Heaven will yield us endless opportunities such as possibly being reborn, serving He who created us, etc. The latter, well......a little "toasty" I guess.

What about you?

Spot the malapropism. Why, oh, why are words blindly used by cubanlord?

Anyway. There's nothing after you die. Sometimes this bothers me, as it rules out the possibility of gloating at sanctimonious Christians post-mortem..

So if you believe you can be reborn in heaven then you must believe that you can die in heaven?

Why would an almighty and all-powerful creator need peon humans to "serve" him?

yes, there's something after death: burial

and the life of those you've known and touched and countless others

if you aren't equally gripped by concerns about life before you were born then you simply are expressing fear about the end of your life, imo

That's better. Could you tell us all more about hell? I've never talked to anyone who actually subscribed to the whole 'fire and brimstone and demons poking you with pitchforks' vision of God's punishment for those who do not believe in Him. Exactly how hot do you imagine it is?

I believe in life after death. But not just hanging around on fluffy clouds strumming a harp. Nor do I believe in a literal "fire & brimstone" Hell. "Heaven" means continued progression, while Hell is seperation from God.

Man....now that could take forever to explain. In short, I really don't know. What I do know (eh...believe)is this:

In order for something to exist, there has to be a balance (kind of like the ying-yang theory). Thus, if you have a + (in many cases, people would consider "Heaven") you must have a - to balance it out (in this case, "Hell"). Unfortunately, I cannot sit there and explain what either is. I have never been to either one before. I can only speculate. Although, there are some universal truths to be considered in these types of questions:

1. Over 90% of the world's population believes in a "higher-being" (ex. Budda, Krisha guy, God, Muhammed, Nature, etc.)
2. Furthermore, eh.......the announcements just came on sorry...."sports day today"

To be continued later.

If you aren't being a dork and are sincere in your question, try reading Dante's Divine Comedy. I have only read "Inferno" and half of the second one. Can't say this will provide you with a definitive answer, though most Catholics believe in this.

Careful when reading this...lol Laughing, everyone Dante doesn't like ends up somewhere in Purgatory.

Same here. Not to mention, the whole idea of Hell being fire and brimstone is really a newer Christian idea, isn't it?

Why does any attempt at a sincere discussion on such topics have to degenerate into ad hominum attacks?

Just once, I'd like to see a thread here where people can post their opinions freely without being subject to attack.

*sigh*

(why do I bother to post when I have a migraine?)

It depends, I think of "God" as not really a being, but everything together. It's hard to explain, but separation from it would suck. If you mean that crazy, vengeful, members only exclusive jerk from that silly 2000 year old book, then I hope I am going to hell.

My understanding of God, while different from yours, is also different from the traditional Christian idea of God (which never made much sense to me... probably cuz I wasn't raised as a 'traditional' Christian).

Maybe another day I'll attempt to explain. But, with the way such attempts have been treated in the past (not necessarily my attempts, but whatever), I probably won't.
