Apple updated their notebook line today and with the weak won, Apple products have gone up in price a great deal.
Their bottom of the line MacBook used to start at 1.19 million won. It's now 1.58 million. The mid-range MacBook is over 2 million won. You could have gotten a MacBook Pro for the same price.
The MacBook Air is almost a million won more expensive than before. It's the same with the MacBook Pro. Ouch.
I bet you could still get the previous models at the old prices. If you're looking for a Mac, don't mind an older model and have to get it in Korea, you might want to get it soon. |

| I wonder if anyone has had any experience sending electronics into Korea. I am almost tempted to have someone in the states by me one and ship it here. The 17 inch macbook pro is listed at 4million won. About $1000 more than on the US Apple site. |

Maybe you would come out cheaper (considering shipping and insurance) getting it in a neighboring country like Japan? It's about $3,200 last I checked on the Japanese site.
btw-the 17inch is nothing but pure joy Even taking it with me different places isn't a bother considering the size |

My 2-year old Macbook and I are tight.
But if the high price of Macs in Korea is hurting you (as it would me), you might consider buying a copy of OS X Leopard and installing it on a cheap Korean PC. It's quite a streamlined process these days, and while you don't get the nifty Apple Hardware features, it's still a lot of bang for your buck.
Installing OS X on a PC is not officially supported by Apple, but has a large support community behind it. Some methods of installation involve illegal software, while others do not. Lifehacker, a popular mainstream personal productivity blog that is quite anti-piracy, is a great starting point for putting together your own "Hackintosh" on the level. |

I'm not a fan of apple or OS X (this isn't a slam) but this is interesting. One of my major beefs with apple is just that you can't get whatever hardware you want and install it. But, does this mean that you could have all the hardware freedom of a PC with apple software? |

OS X is, understandably, very picky about what hardware it works on. You (the generic 'you') shouldn't have any trouble finding a compatible PC at a low price, but at the same time not all PCs are supported. The closer your PC's hardware resembles what's inside a Mac in terms of processor, chipset, video card, etc, the more likely you are to avoid difficulties with installation/operation.
Your first step, with whichever OS X installation method you choose, is to check the hardware compatibility list and make sure you have what is needed.
It is inadvisable to assume that, since your PC is new and fast, it must work with OS X. The path to the dark side, that is. |

mac just came out with their new macbook and it should be available this week and the price point dropped, the basic is now $999 instead of $1099 so you should actually come out in the end AND you should be able to get the new model! |
