Thought this was interesting as I see so many people posting up invalid arguements:
http://www.iep.utm.edu/f/fallacy.htm
Let's brush up on our logic folks, TEH KIDS, they depend on us.
Here's one I love:
Phallacy of accident:
We often arrive at a generalization but don't or can't list all the exceptions. When we reason with the generalization as if it has no exceptions, we commit the fallacy of accident. This fallacy is sometimes called the fallacy of sweeping generalization.
Example:
People should keep their promises, right? I loaned Dwayne my knife, and he said he'd return it. Now he is refusing to give it back, but I need it right now to slash up my neighbors' families. Dwayne isn't doing right by me.
People should keep their promises, but there are exceptions as in this case of the psychopath who wants Dwayne to keep his promise to return the knife.

The title is "Phallcies", so I thought it was a thread about a new trend in fake penises. |

You'll soon figure out that arguing on Dave's is about as lucrative as eating styrofoam. Even if you "win" if you were to pull back the curtain you'd find you've been arguing with some former Dunkin Donuts cashier. Big acomplishment. |

Yeah the spelling was weird and the subject was not the joke I thought.
Also interesting are cognitive biases:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_cognitive_biases
It's kind of fun to go down the list and see how many you apply to day to day life in Korea.
Not Invented Here the tendency to ignore that a product or solution already exists, because its source is seen as an "enemy" or as "inferior".
Hmmm. |
