I realize this has been discussed to death. However the search function on this site isn't that good and I don't feel like searching through page upon page in the stickies.

So.

I am Canadian (from BC) and need a CRC to extend my visa (same employer) for 2 extra months. I am obviously in Korea right now. My current visa ends Nov 22 and I want to extend it for 2 months.

What is the process for getting a CRC from Canada?

Any assistance or links to information would be much appreciated. Thanks.

i did it in May of this year BOTH ways:

(a) mail home a signed letter giving permission to a family member to go to the nearest police station (RCMP detachment in my home town) to get one on your behalf. It takes 2-3 days.; Ready for family member to pick up and mail back to you.

Unsealed, unapostilled, just a single piece of paper. The Immigration Office in Sacheon servicing rural Gyeongsangnam province accepted it no problem and my E-2 visa was extended.

I also did at the same time, just in case:

(b) download from the government of Canada website a form to fill out and take to get fingerprinted at a Korean police station then mailed to Ottawa for up to six months of processing (took under 5 weeks actually but by the the other option had gone thru and I already had a renewed E-2 visa and didn't need to use it.

Was this with the VSS or not? I understand this is now mandatory.

VanIslander:

Thanks for the information.

Has anyone tried his method A for Seoul immigration?

Do I need to be fingerprinted, etc or can I just get a family member to run a criminal record check? Any experiences with Seoul immigration?

Thanks.

The easiest way is below - no fingerprints needed, no signed letter to use family member as a proxy.

The info you need to know:

I went through the Winnipeg Police Service and received my national background check, including VSS in just over 3 weeks. I did it all from Korea and I have never lived in Winnipeg or Manitoba for that matter. No fingerprints were required and it only cost $30. You can download the necessary form from their website. You just need to send two acceptable pieces of I.D.
So far this seems like the easiest, and quickest way to get this done from Korea.

I actually didn't request the VSS because I was told it wasn't necessary if you were applying from within Korea, but they did it anyway. As stated by the Canadian embassy, immigration, and other posters who have submitted local police background checks, it is acceptable.

The check was applied for through the regular post, and returned the same way. It isn't an online check or anything like that. It includes a National check, a local Winnipeg check, and a VSS. It was sent directly to my home address here in Korea, so the next step is to take it to the Canadian embassy to have a statutory declaration made and it stamped.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Tommy.

Can anyone confirm if I can get VSS by giving written permission to a family member to get a CRC/VSS from the local station and then have them mail it to me?

Thanks.

For the check from Winnipeg is a photocopy of the ID acceptable or does it need to be the originals?

Check this website out www.cbmpara.ca, I and many others went through this paralegal office a few weeks ago gfor both the CRC and VSS check with no problems. No fongerprints needed but legit and a lot less hassle.

PM me if need be.

Bump!

I knew if I waited long enough, they would finally work out an easier way of doing this from here.

Thank you for posting this.
