The positions, the debates, the ads, the attacks, the threads that all treat the same topic...
Are we bloody there yet? |

The fat lady may be singing, but I don't think Red has lit his cigar. |

Very astute observation, Bangbayed.
I wonder if, given today's technology, we truly need so much time, an entire "election year," to decide. Candidates do not need to travel the country by train, the internet and sites such as Youtube.com outpace not only newspapers but also cable television -- not to mention the candidates' webpages themselves.
Do we truly need this many months, where we spend this much sustained energy and money on campaigns and airtime, to decide these days? Do we not have better things to do with this time, energy, and money? |

I got sick of it in the middle and it definitely needs to be shortened by about 2/3's. However, it is the civic religion and I love the rituals, the color and the pizazz of it all. It's by far the best show in town. But please, let's have the Reader's Digest condensed version. |

How ironic, coming from someone who helps perpetuate it all. You didn't seem to mind when Hillary was still in it.
Anyway yes, it is too much. Can't you guys limit yourselves to one thread on the singular topic, "US Presidential election 2008?" |

The General Election is tedious. There are few mileposts outside of the debates and the conventions. Roughly half the country is going to vote one way decidedly no matter what happens.
Primaries are more exciting! There are yardposts, states, CONQUESTS, a moving campaign crossing through the country and waging battles, some pitched and some even, in landmarks across this great nation. And there's no Red states or Blue states, the whole country is in play.
And this General Election has been fairly boring since September. We know who will win. Its just necessary to go vote and make it happen. |

Yeah, it's pretty long. I'm enjoying it much more than recent Canadian politics though. We just had one of the least exciting elections in history yesterday. From a minority to a slightly stronger minority. |

The thing I'm sick of is Republicans and Democrats arguing back and forth when those two parties are so similar and both of those two parties are ruining America.
One thing I have noticed is that presidential candidate bumper stickers and yard signs are extremely rare this time. Maybe Republicans and Democrats are finally ashamed of themselves, and they should be! |

In 37 days. But there isn't much to worry about in Canada now. The country has been very well run for decades now. What is there to vote about? I voted, but I don't know why I went though the hassle. |

This is a ridiculous post. If you aren't interested in election coverage, don't view it. Pretty simple. |

The problem may, or may not, be that the election media cycle is too long, but the bigger problem for me is the total lack of substantive journalism. Can the actual exploration of complex issues please get some air time instead of intellectually dishonest, partisan rah-rah-horse-race-bullshit? |
