Anyone know if any of the supermarkets sell black or pinto beans? I want to make some refried beans! |

Part of me says to say nothing but I do know the joy of refried beans on nachos and in burritos. Check around the industrial areas and look for Halal grocers. There are many Mid-East guys now working these areas. I know of two stores in the Namdong Industrial area in Incheon and both carry dry black beans AND chick peas (garbonzos). I just made a full-on Mexi-meal for my wife's client and they were very happy.
The Halal places also carry lime juice at times, the real stuff not the Lazy lime crap. |

I've seen bags of pinto beans and cans of refried beans at the red door market in Itaewon. I can't recall the prices but I'm sure they weren't cheap. |

Add some cubed beef, onions, green pepper, hot sauce & cheese. Makes a nice chili or even a burrito filling. |

Kim's Club in Yatap also has canned black beans. I think they also have canned pinto beans. |

You can buy them fresh at Garak Market as well as fresh kidney beans. Don't let them sprout or they tend to go bad. Use them as soon as possible, and by that I mean the first day or two you have them. |

If you have the right spices, the smallish red beans available in larger supermarts or in street marts makes almost as good mexican style beans for chili or burritos as do pintos or black beans. I brought my spices from home (chili powder, cumin, etc.) so I make up big batches and freeze containers for burrito dinners anytime I want!! Yum. |

Black beans have been really scarce these days in Itaewon. I found a package a few months ago, but haven't seen them since.
Pintos are all over the place, though! Check an outdoor market and you'll see heaps of them. |
