Basically, the tone of the campaign is a serious issue and is being dealt with on other threads as it should be. However, there is something very.....odd about this report.

Keith Olbermann is reporting that two young guys (Dan Gottwald and Josh Tamblyn) who appear to be college age were at a Palin rally in New Hampshire chanting, "Obama! Obama!"...and got 'beaten up'...... .

This allegation seems bizarre:
a) Is it even true? It's been reported to the police.
b) How stupid do you have to be to go to the other guy's rally and chant? You might consider that waving a red flag at a bull and take your medicine.
c) But here is where it gets surreal: One guy says he was hit by a woman 65 years old...and about 15 others. The other guy says 'a bunch of old ladies' punched, elbowed and pushed him.

Is this real, do you think? A false flag maybe?

Re: "real or a false flag?"

Are you kidding me? Are you not even willing to take credit that some B. Obama partisans are going to Republican rallies to heckle the candidates while they speak, to bait some Republican partisans with camcorders, or to generally taunt them by chanting "Obama! Obama!" until they provoke a suitable, newsworthy response that proves, once again, that all Republicans are racist thugs?

I do not know whether this is real of a false flag, Ya-ta Boy. But given the pattern that I have seen unfolded over the last week or two, and given that the press release on this "story" seems to have gone direct to K. Olbermann, I would suggest that it was probably real -- that is, a real, nice set-up that went bad. But let us keep this in perspective: how bad could getting beat up by a grandmother and her henchmen be?

"It's been reported to the police," you claim? Is there a police report? That would certainly settle it.

Define "beaten up". Did these guys require hospitalization of any sort? The detail of the elederly woman leads me to speculate that it might have been just a bunch of hostile shoving, elbowing etc. that the victims are exaggerating somewhat.

Plus, if it really was old ladies involved, there is gonna be a lot of back and forth he said-she said about this, and a lot of people will be instinctively sympathetic to the seniors.

Yeah, that makes it sound as if they were MAYBE hoping that something would go down, so they could be martyrs to the cause. As an activist, I occassionally used to protest at rallies for politicians I was against, but I never got close enough to any significant number of their supporters for a beating to ensue. Plus, the political climate this time around would make that type of protesting a bad idea, to say the least.

I do not feel much sympathy for someone who goes and incites the other side. It's plain stupid, and it is not respectful, really. When you go to someone's rally and then insult them, then you are asking for trouble.
Obviously, the people in that crowd are not Obama supporters, so you don't go there. It is like someone from a gang going into another gang's neighborhood and expecting red carpet treatment. It doesn't work that way. They were lucky they weren't hospitalized.

What is funny about this is I can find numerous instances of McCain supporters doing this as well. Please don't tell me that it's a one sided deal.

Based on Batman Begins, I'd say they were tortured, but all in the name of protecting the American Way. It resonates with me.

Careful. Per Kuros, that term indicates feminization.

I understand your point, but in America you should be safe to speak your mind and promote your candidate without fear of violence.

Gophie-poo?

No wonder you were almost banned. You should have been banned. You were guilty of essentializing him. I hope you are more careful about how you use your memes in the future.

See that you do. You wouldn't want your triumphalism get the best of your tropes.
