Are there any park rats in the house?
I love riding pow and back home am no park rat, but i love snowboarding enough to settle for what i can get where ever i'm at, and korea = all you got is park and pipe.
What resort, more importantly park and pipe, do you like best in Korea?
I dig High 1 resort, last year's park (07-0 had a nice flow. Been to Ji-san (nice pipe), Yong-pyong (nice jibs).
What's your vote?
AND is there a Burton shop in Seoul? |

Ya the pipe at Jisan is pretty nice. And they've got a few decent hits there too. Not much of a hill otherwise though. At least it's close and has a free shuttle from Gangnam.
Yongpeong sucked in my opinion. Didn't bother even going last winter. They had a box and a few rails the last time I went.
The runs are long and fast, but all the same. Sterile.
Haven't tried Phoenix yet, but have heard good things.
Can't wait to ride! |

ya, i've gotta check out pheonix park this winter too. a guy working at pop snowboards tonight said he liked the park there. one of the park crew at high 1 spoke good english and said he thought pheonix built bad tables with flatish transitions, so i didn't bother checking it out, enjoyed high 1 so much better than anywhere else here, so stuck with that.
anyway, glad someone posted! i get really itchy to ride this time of year. i may even go to tigerworld tomorrow for some indoor riding.
pm me if you ever want to meet and ride, i've only got really casual skiers and snowboaders as aquaintances here in korea. |

I'm right with you xboxer. I used to wake up at 12 noon in Denver, hit Breckenridge tree runs for 2 hours then head to Keystone's Area 51 as it was open until 8pm. No better rail park exists. But even the "good" places in Korea suck. Nothing is groomed or maintained and there's not enough of a following to yell at people who hit approaches diagonally (so they can hop .5 meters and say "I got air.").
I end up getting drunk all day when I ride in Korea. It's the only way I don't go too fast and hit ice, it's the only way I don't kill people who cut me off on runs and it's the only way I deal with the shitty runs. I also travel the month of February to tropical locations, so I miss the best conditions.
Korea has way too many funboxes and way too few narrow rails. I have orgasms thinking about Colorado's conditions, tree runs, smooth kickers and rails. |

ya, it is dissapointing riding here, i really miss hiking backcountry lines. but high 1 resort revived a tiny bit of my faith, check it out if you haven't yet. and like many people comment, japan is pretty close and has fantastic snow, def. worth a trip. niseko is amazing, but a bit of a flight, nagano is pretty close and still awesome.
also, def try hitting the slopes on chinese new year (solnar?) last year the slopes were relatively empty for a day or two that weekend. and the very bitter end of the season is empty as well. final weekend at high 1 last year i had runs where i literally didn't share the run with one single person. (although it was raining and conditions were bad that day)
did anyone try the water kicker this summer at jisan resort? (plastic bristle ramps into a pool) i didn't have any riding buddies around this summer, so didn't get around to checking it out. |

here's a shot of the park at high 1 end of last season (one dude on the whole run). it's fenced off, so no trouble from amatures crossing in, and nice flow, the last three kickers were one speed check each, quite a fun set.

Its a shame to see photos of runs in Korea with brown dirt surrounding every part of the man made ice slope.......its hard to even call it snow.
I brought all my sh|t with me from home - expecting some alright snow etc after living in Japan...what a mistake. If i had the chance in winter, id flag riding here and take 2 weeks and go back to Japan. So fkn worth it.
Doubt ill go riding in Korea this winter, maybe once or twice if theres a bit of freshies over night.
Unless your into hard packed park riding its pretty boring - i love hitting kickers etc dnt get me wrong....but i can do that back home ya know...i want some waste deep powder...or at least the possibility of off trail tree runs or something, not just crusing the hill with all the other Kims n Lees in Korea. |

While its nothing like NZ, I have had a few good days at MuJu resort in ChollaDo~ actually I was surprised, the conditions were great, good snow, the only problem were the swarms of people. If possible, don't go on the weekend, makes a huge difference as in any country.... |

bummer to have to compare korea to japan after living there first. korea really is at a snow deficite compared to their neighbor, but wucha gonna do...
don't hold out for fresh snowfall this winter man, it just really doesn't come, (high 1 got one 20cm ish snowfall last year, but that is rare i believe.)
ride in the spring, corn snow and slush is great fun and isn't biased whether it originated as man made or natural snow. |
