trim their toenails?
It's hard enough with toenail clippers to keep them just the right length, not too long, not too short.
Heck, you can't walk if they are too long or too short. And they get ingrown. |

guess the family helped each other out.. mother and father did the kids, mother did the husband, husband did the mother etc.. must of been a lot of you scratch my back I scratch yours etc..
using their teeth! or sharp tools..
actually when you think about it, if you make it a habit to file your nails often then it would be easy to control, with some sharp stone etc..
How did humans brush their teeth 500 years ago? dont think toothpaste was around then.. or what about BC the time of aristotle..
wake up with that morning breath after a hard night on the vino walk into the kitchen to greet the wife with a kiss! YUCK! |

I've always wondered about this.
My theory is that we were barefooted and like dogs we we used our fingers and toes enough to have it weared down.
As for beards and hair, my guess is that our life spans weren't long enough back in nanderthal days to have it get really long. |

This is a really gross topic. All I can see now is a cave man biting his nasty toenails, and it makes me throw up a little.
I'm sure their toenails were worn down, and they used water to slightly clean themselves and bones to pick their teeth. They also had sharp objects to use to clean their teeth and cut nails, I guess.
I've wondered about the invention of soap. They didn't know that it killed microscopic things so what was the point. To make them smell good?? Did they add scents to it right away? |

Why are fingernails incredibly sexy yet toenails the ultimate abomination? Sorry to go offtopic, but since we're on the subject I figured I'd ask. |

I've seen a couple of Korean students chew their own toenails
the flexibility that comes with squatting I guess |

I think it was introduced to the west by the Chinese a few hundred years ago, they used some minty leaf or something to do it. Before then Europeans considered being toothless at 30 as natural. |

Chew on a green stick. Fibers separate and the whole process cleans the teeth well. |

Ten Fabulous Uses for Toenail Clippings:
1. You can use the really firm ones to pick your teeth. Save the trees.
2. You can clean under your fingernails with them, if they're not too sharp.
3. You can use them to scratch your head, since you've probably clipped your fingernails, too.
4. You can use them to comb your Andy Rooney eyebrows, and then mail them to him in the spirit of comradery.
5. You can use them to carve designs in the skin of a lemon, and then use the lemon shavings in your favorite dish or tea.
6. You can boil them and sip the broth. The Keratin Protein broth you can digest. Do not try this at home, folks.
7. You can use them to pop pimples.
8. You can use them to quit smoking. Chewing and sucking on a big toe clipping will last all day.
9. You can use them to pick your nose, or that of your brother. Leave your sister alone.
10. You can save them in a box and put them in your underwear drawer for your grandchild to discover years later.
11. Bonus: tie your clippings together with dental floss; forming a knotted line of clips. Attach this string, or even more, to a hair barrett, and wear them dangling from your hair. Great conversation piece, if you don't mind the stares.
