That is interesting.
I looked at it (NK) just yesterday from the observation tower (the one on the hill off Freedom (자유로) Highway up towards Paju.) On a real fine day you can see all that is presented to you over the river. The place looks very slow. I think NK (the parts that we get to see) is basically boring. Perhaps even NK in civvies is boring too. It's sooo conformist. It must be like going to a church group and everyone is in uniform ...
Anyway, at the Freedom building thing you can also buy (disgusting tasting) TaeDongKang beer and Pyongyang soju as well as other NK stuff. Some nice screen prints, but overpriced methinks. It costs 2000 won to get in to that building then look through the binoculars etc.
Still, Kaesong is a few kms into that bit of the country (now owned by Hyundai I imagine) so a small bit of an adventure there, but not a huge one ... |

I've been thinking about going up there. Looks like it's considerably cheaper than going to Pyongyang. |

I think some of the Pyongyang tours also take in Kaesong on the way to the DMZ from the Northern side but they cost a fortune and you have to start out from Beijing so you need a multiple entry visa to China. |

Has anyone been with Adventure Korea? A friend a mine wants to go with them, but I've heard mixed reviews of Adventure Korea in general, and might prefer a Korean tour. |

If you went with adventure Korea I would imagine you end up in the same convoy but just in a different bus and then the higher price is because it has English explanations. |

What do you think the Norks tell the locals to explain why busloads of rich Southerners are passing through the city gawking at them everyday? |

I was going to say, "Come and pick it up - it's free to you," but then I really wanted a drink and that's pretty much all there was in the frig, except for Pyongyang Soju, so I'm drinking it. It has a bit of a homebrew taste. I was just concerned about formaldehyde that tends to sweeten it and the Chinese brewers use that ... It (Nork beer) does however tend to affect the stomach ... I just don't know. My old man came from Aussie for a stay and he said it was alright ...
Yeah, well better than the cat's wees that they drink in Aus perhaps ...
It ain't Lion Red or DB but. |
