I have to do a conversation class demonstration with 15 high school students that last 1 hr tomorrow.

help is appreciated.

15 is pretty easy. What level of ability or range?

Here is something I've used before in Korea with ages from middle school through adult.

That might be good for a class where you aren't working on something you developed the day before through readings or whatever.

You can most likely find Korean fables or traditional stories online to printout to work from.

Use the white/black board or computer with projector if you have it - to take the time every once in awhile to write out the story as the class agrees on what should be said.

The heart of it is just getting the students to teach you a story they all know --- but there will also be disagreement with exactly how the story goes, and you can have them work it out themselves ---- while you play stupid like you've never heard of the story before...

...to take up time and add to the discussion, you can ask questions about any possible parallels to fables in Western culture or some other nation.

I should have added - I kept 4 or 5 of these small books on my desk to use to liven up a class or for a change of pace - especially if the class had gotten bogged down in the students mostly listening to me talk all the time.

With the fairy tales and fables, they have a common pool of knowledge and I'd pretend I was clueless about them and just asked questions and get them to tell me the story.....which the vast majority of time they would end up enjoying doing...

I thought I might need to point out ------

the fable you print out or show should ideally be in Korean.

If it is in English - though a Korean story - students will naturally mimic the English they can read at a glance.

If it is in Korea, even the lowest level English ability student in the group will know exactly what the material says and can try to join in the English discussion about how to paraphrase the story...
