Just tried this delicious food for lunch today, my adjuma class took me out to say thank-you for teaching them and i would definitely recommend it, especially with winter coming.
It consists of meat on the bone with vegetables (carrots, kumera, and mushrooms mostly) in a thick stew....cant believe its taken me a year to try it... i always thought galbijjim was just galbi haha..
Anyway, are there any foods you guys really recommend....I mostly eat gwenjang jigae, dwegi galbi, and now galbijjim...and have tried alot of korean foods, but give me your favs so i can make sure ive experienced them all...
(also might be helpful for others who dont know what to order/places to go) |

Galbijjim is wonderful! My favorite place to eat it is in Hongdae.
Have you tried 닭갈비 and 닭도리탕? They are also great. |

I knew a GalbiJim when I worked on a ranch in Idaho. Fine, upstanding, young man he was.
GalbiTang on the other hand. Always freakin out, throwing Karate chops and Kung-fu kicks at anyone who dared look at him funny. |

Dakgalbi is basically a hot chicken stew.

닭도리탕 is another chicken stew that's sort of different, although I'm not sure how to describe it.
I could sure go for a big helping of either of those right now. |

Me too. It's a stew of chicken pieces (with bone), some potatoes, carrots and onions and a few other veggies in a spicy sauce. Some places will serve it for one person in a black bowl, others insist it is only for a group. Either way, ask for extra potatoes. |

I'm not sure, it matches the Biblical description of Hell a lot more closely.
(and that wasn't meant as an insult) |

Takgalbi can also be served the same as twaejigalbi or samgyeopsal. Basically it's bbq sauce-marinated, boneless chicken breasts thrown on a really hot grill. It's pretty good. I've had it other ways like mixed with vegetables in sauce on a pan, but the first one I mentioned is better as far as I'm concerned. |

Buldok will burn your mouth off and its way better than either of those.
The best place to get it is hole in the wall place in Shincheon a block away
from The Woodstock. There's always a huge line up. |

Kimchi Jjim is also very good. Same thing as galbijjim but with lots of kimchi in the sauce. |
