				| I'm getting things ready to come back to Korea, and have all of my documents ready. I talked to a recruiter on the phone last night (She's based in Busan), and she said I needed two copies of my official sealed transcripts. She said one copy was for the visa application, and the other was for once I'm in Korea, for something else (ARC card, or something).
She said this was a new requirement. The thing is, I haven't come across this requirement in any of the other job offers I've looked at. I have one copy of the transcripts, so don't want to spend $10 on another copy if I don't need them. I'm from Canada and attended a university in Canada.

Has anyone who's arrived in Korea recently had to have two copies of their transcripts (one before, and one when you arrive)?

				| I've heard of 2 copies before but not for once you arrive in country. There are some consulates that will require you to submit a set with your Visa application but as far as I know it isn't required for any additional paperwork once you get to Korea. | |

				| Need 2. Even if you don't think you need 2, just get another one. Better safe than sorry.

				| broken76 is correct. You only need to submit 1 set of transcripts to your employer. Some of the Korean embassies/consulates will require a second set. I know for sure that Toronto requires them, as well as some embassies in the States. You could call or check the embassy's website in your area, or get a second set to be safe. | |

				| Official transcripts were needed the first time I came to Korea. I switched schools in September, and I was able to just print out an unofficial copy online. Immigration extended my visa and returned my passport and ARC card.
Make sure to get your diploma though. It seems like everyone wants a glance and copy of it. This school is still asking questions about it, even after they have seen it LOL

				| In the grand scheme of things, if you're worried about having to spend an extra $10 to get a job here, you're probably not going to like it here very much. Give up and go somewhere else so we don't have to listen to you whine in a few months time. | |

Hey man! CDN$10 is like KRW12014 right now!

But seriously, spend the extra tenner or even a twenty, and have a back up copy, or two, just in case.

Your odds of needing it are pretty significant and when you do need your transcript you'll be happy to have a set at hand and not have to spend more money to have them sent over.

				| Your degree is something that will be needed twice. Once for immigration and again for the Ministry of Education. I believe the Ministry of Education will accept a copy though instead of the original. Overall for all docs if you can get at least a second copy. Consulates can make or change their requirements whenever they want. I believe the London consulate is now requiring an apostilled background (originals only) check as well as a set of sealed transcripts.
The system is screwy since consulates and immigration have almost no coordination between them since they are run by two separate departments.

				| Have you been paying attentin to the exchange rates? If they are not paying you 3.0 million won a month its not worth coming over right now. You might make more working at Mcdonalds than here! | |

Do you get paid in US$? If not, the exchange rate does not affect your hourly wage here. We get paid in KRW (assumption here), and you spend KRW here in Korea, not US$. Therefore, the exchange rate does NOT affect your salary. All this talk of it making our salaries worthless is just pointless and stupid scaremongering. Our salary is not affected at all by the exchange rate (unless you DO get paid in US$).

The only thing that has changed is you have to spend more KRW to buy US$ if you want to send money home.

Most of the E-2s in Korea have debts back home that must be paid every month in dollars, pounds or rands so the value of the won is of tremendous significance to us.

There's not much point in coming to Korea to teach if we can't pay our bills back home and bank some money. This isn't scaremongering; it's common sense.

Sorry to disagree, but today my car insurance was due with AIG and instead of paying $274 they wanted me to pay 309,000w as they base it on the exchange of 1.130 won per dollar. So if you think that "us" making won are not affected, think again.

				| Thanks for the info. I'm in Ottawa, so my consulate is the Ottawa one, not the Toronto one. They were always happy with the one set of transcripts before, so I'll see how it goes, and if I need to I can always swing by my university if I need another set.
I've been to Korea twice before, and it was always one set of transcripts, but with these new requirements that have just cropped up (CRC, etc.), it's a whole new process than it used to be.

				| I've had some recruiters/schools tell me they want three copies, and even some that say they want four!
Its not the costing $10 to get thats the problem, its the university taking two weeks or longer to send them to me.
