I am planning to visit the Philippines during the Xmas break. I work at a very good hagwon and have never experienced ANY contract or pay problems. I signed a 2 year contract and I my contract expires June 2009. I married a Filipina in Korea. She is returning home the first part of December. We will have wedding ceremony and all the family festivities when I visit there.

My break is from dec 24 to Jan 1. I am expected to be back to work on Jan 2 WHICH IS A FRIDAY. It would be so much better if could return to work on Monday, January 5!!!!

However, another teacher has already been told that we MUST return on that Friday. I am the senior teacher and on very good terms.

What should I do??? Go ahead take the extra days and take my chances. Or be truthful and ask for the off?? Or insist on the day off??

Any Advice????

I simply will say I NEED the day off.

I already bought my plane tickets for a Dec 25th departure, January 4th return.

I plan on having the conversation with my director on the payday in the middle of November.

It's all in how you FRAME it. No wiggle room. But no attitude either. Don't get upset. Be firm and clear.

I might have an advantage, an extra tact to take, because I get one week Christmas vacation as per contract in addition to stat holidays, so the Friday would be the fifth of the five regular business days over the Christmas-New year's period.
