For those not in the know, ACORN, is an organization that registers voters. To help with this, they pay volunteers based on the number of registered voters out there. Every year, there's a few unscrupulous people on the payroll who make up names or otherwise try to cheat to get more money. Every year, ACORN sifts through the names and double checks the registrations to make sure they're not being hoodwinked. Senator McCain, in his everything-AND-the-kitchen-sink strategy is using this as an attack against Obama, claiming that ACORN is perhaps perpetrating the "most serious threat to democracy" this country has "ever seen". Naturally, when one tries to fire up the base with fear, fire and brimstone, and angry rhetoric, some people will go too far.
Here's some messages left at ACORN's offices:

Hi, I was just calling to let you all know that Barack Obama needs to get hung. He's a fu*&ing ni**er, and he's a piece of shit. You guys are fraudulent, and you need to go to hell. All the ni*&ers on oak trees. They're gonna get all hung honeys, they're gonna get assassinated, they're gonna get killed.
Lovely....

"You liberal idiots. Dumb shits. Welfare bums. You guys just f&*king come to our country, consume every natural resource there is, and make a lot of babies. That's all you guys do. And then suck up the welfare and expect everyone else to pay for your hospital bills for your kids. I just say let your kids die. That's the best move. Just let your children die. Forget about paying for hospital bills for them. I'm not gonna do it. You guys are lowlifes. And I hope you all die."
Way to care for your fellow man...
Now, this doesn't mean that all Republicans are doing this, but when coupled with things like the Obama Monkey doll, "TERRORIST!", "KILL HIM!", "He's a [scary, mistrustful] Arab", and other stuff, one begins to see a pattern. The pattern isn't that all Republicans are racist rednecks, hicks, or loons out to get Obama--the pattern is that ever since McCain decided to go all negative all the time, stuff like this has been happening more and more.
I think it's pretty clear that I support Obama and think he'd make the better president. Regardless of the outcome of this election however, we need to realize that we're going to be facing some pretty tough choices and times and that divided we fall and united we stand. Simply put, we cannot afford to be deeply divided, polarized and partisan if we hope to tackle the issues and threats facing America.
McCain's recent strategy, i feel, threatens the unity we need and undermines our strengths. This is dangerous political waters we're treading and couple this with Bachmann's want to have the media (who i'm sure she despises) investigate every member of Congress' pro- or anti-Americanness (with a temperature infographic maybe?) and i feel that we're sliding into some deep sh!t. |
