I just did my first medical check in Korea - Daegu to be precise and just thought I'd let people know what it involved.
1. Stand on pedestal which takes your weight and nurse measures your height.
2. Nurse takes blood pressure.
3. Look into machine which looks like a microscope and do eyesight test.
4. Stand up close to machine for chest x-ray.
5. Give sample of blood.
6. Go to the loo with small cup and produce urine sample
That was it. Boss accompanied me and filled out my form and paid. I don't know what the fee was and didn't ask. They told me the school would receive the results in the next few days. Fingers crossed!
Strange points
1. The eye test - I was looking at a sheet with numbers from 1-20 arranged in rows. Under every number were circles of various sizes ranging from visible to tiny! Each circle had a piece missing at the top, bottom, left or right. I was asked to say whether the missing part was "top" "bottom" "left" or "right"
I had 5 questions. I only answered 2 with confidence. Weird since I have never needed glasses and have always passed eye tests with flying colours. I can make out text from a long way away but the circles I was told to identify were really minute!!
2. I was worried about the blood pressure test. I have had white coat syndrome ever since I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease in a routine medical check in 2004. From that time, without fail, I get stressed out when doing a blood pressure test (think they'll find something wrong with me!) and usually register about 150. The nurse used the old pump apparatus and marked me down as 120/80 - just like James Bond - was delighted but just can't believe it!!!
3. Curious about the need for the chest x-ray though - why do they want to do that?? |
