Can anyone advise me as to what goes on in Seoul during the week of Christmas? Does everything stay opening as far as shops, restaurants, hofs, and entertainment go? Do people generally have holidays on x-mas day / Boxing Day? What's the nightlife like? Where can a 30+ year old bloke go and have a good time and meet some snazzy Korean ladies? Any particular places of interest? Thanks in advance for those of you in the know that can assist... Much appreciated.

Most things remain open. Christmas Day MAY be the exception- though I doubt it. Many of us on the Korea Board frequent the Yellow Bar in Hongk University district every once in a while. I, myself am in the east end, so some of us go over to the "Thirsty Duck International Bar" near Konkuk Univeristy Subway.

Enjoy your trip!

How was your other trip over here during the summer? I recall you were here for a week or 10 days or so.. what'd you do at that time? (Just curious)..

My last trip to Seoul (Sept.) was great. I enjoyed it so much that I decided to return for another week. However, I could still use some advice on the best areas and places to go out at night -- especially during the week -- while things tend to be a bit quiet everywhere. On my last trip I stayed in Sinchon (near Hongik U.) for 5 nights and in Itaewon for 2. This time, I will not stay in Itaewon at all. It was brutal, dirty, slimy, and scummy. However, Sinchon was great and so were many other fantastic places I went to. As for nightlife, I really couldn't find a whole lot of anything during the weeknights. If you can recommend any other places to stay and / or go out, it would be appreciated.

I would agree about Itaewon.

I love Shinchon. Very nearby is HongDae.. which has quite a bit more foreigners and discos. Weekdays are kind of hit and miss.

Carl Cox is DJing on New Years Eve at the Sheraton. Not sure how much it is exactly but anywhere from 60,000 so expensive. Look on the Sheraton website.

I'm going to a foreigners buffet dinner on Christmas evening so someone's gonna have to roll me home.
