Originally they were available as soon as someone signed up, but due to some shenanigans by a particular snapperhead named Kevin they are apparently suspended for new members.

I'm not a MOD, but that seems to be the case.

Not necessarily info, just my impression, but it seems to be the writing on the wall. Maybe Canuckistan or one of his/her cohorts can chime in with more details.

Maybe never.

Personally, I wish Canuckistan would just update the software to one of the newer verisons that allows for more avatar size manipulation by mods, and time/date locks on when newbees can get an avatar. Not to mention an updated "search" feature that isn't programmed to allow just one search per minute or two. I suppose that's her choice, though. Maybe it's expensive.

Other sites require MOD approval for avatars, I don't see what the problem is, besides this being the most prolific (read profitable) expat forum, and the administrators focusing their attention on the money side of the business.

They should also improve the SEARCH function on this site as it's quite possibly the worst on the web. Absolutely next to worthless.

The latest version of phpBB is freely available and comes in at a whopping 2.17mb.

As I understand it, this place has gotten so old and the database so big that to update it and keep the current content would be practically impossible.

It's at something around 100 posts. Teelo got one and he registered the same day as me.

Then it could be split: Old board/new board. I've seen that done elsewhere. You could still search on the old board, for example, and it could be one of the main forum choices on the new board. Just start a new server.

A lot of the information older than a few years (or less) is now out-of-date anyway.

Search through Google.

1. Go to Google's page.
2. Type the information you want to search for and follow it by typing site:eslcafe.com
3. Voila!

Good idea, and It would stop trolls bumping stupid 5 year old threads.

And while we're on the subject of member privileges, here's another thing that I find extremely annoying and I regard it as a (perhaps the) most significant deterioration in the overall appeal & usefulness of this board since I joined.

When the HELL are forum members going to be permitted to post pics again? GD it, I got snazzy home & garden photos coming out the rectum, and no way to dazzle, intimidate or depress people with them! Mad

(and no, links aren't enough)
