Anyone bank online with Nonghyup? The school's internet wont let me seem to access the internet banking portion of the website. I'm trying to see if I can log onto my account and send money home through Nonghyup's site. I was told I could send money back home through KEB's website.
Anyone know any info on this? |

Are you sure it's the school's internet?
Have you downloaded your certificate information to your school computer?
Also there maybe a security program you have to download first. The same as the first time you logged into your account. |

I dont' know, it shows up in Korean with a big picture of a lock. I know sites like craigslist.com is blocked too.
I'll ask a co-teacher what it says.
I'm more wondering if I can send money home from online instead of going into the bank, then the computer troubles.... |

Maybe your school is blocking it then.
I think there were posts on here or on pusanweb about sending money home online. Pretty sure you have to setup a special kind of account for that purpose. NCAP or some acronym like that. |

It should prompt you for a "Install this windows explorer crap" type window.
After you accept,
It'll ask for like 2 more.
Theres an Englishee section too,
I'm also checking out to see if we can wire money US/CAN accounts.

You need to make sure that you've set up the account correctly. It took me a lot of running back and forth to the bank to clarify things etc. Basically, they should have downloaded a small program for you which they should have either put on a USB for you or burnt onto a disk. You need this when you login.
If you have this already etc, then it maybe the internet connection etc. Also, you can't access banking.nongnyhup through Firefox. |

yeah theres this strange interface that has pictures of a USB, Diskette, and a cell phone.
I assumed some kind of uplink was needed.
God this is so confusing... I'm like a giant latte drinking child.
What is this program for anyways?
Anyone else know Nyonhups rates for foreign X-change? |

You need a certificate (electronic) before you can log in. That little box with the USB/HDD etc. icons is asking where your certificate is. Most people keep it on their flash drives for safety reasons.
When you signed up for internet banking (presuming that you DID sign up...) they would have given you a printout with pass codes and your information. First time you log on you need to generate the certificate, and you'll need to install a couple small security programmes too.
Nonghyup doesn't make things easy but it's straightforward enough if you can get a Korean friend or colleague to walk you through the process. I don't think you'll be able to do overseas remittance though.

I just called Nonghyup, and according to the lady on the phone, once you sign up for internet banking you can do overseas remittance online.
But, I still don't fully trust that lady. I'd say it's about 75% chance you can do it online. I will find out today when I go into the bank to sign up for internet banking... |

| So-so. I haven't had particularly great experience with them. I guess where I am there are plenty of branches so it's handy for ATM's, but aside from that I can't say they are particularly glowing. |

For those that want to open an online account with Nongyhup, you first need to open an additional NACF account. Basically, you can't transfer funds home from the account that your wages are paid into. You set up the other account, transfer funds from your paying-in account into your NACF account, wait a day, and then transfer funds home from your NACF account.
When you set up your online account, just make sure that you keep a note of your passwords as there are two that you need to use and, if like me you may just pull the first memorable word that pops into your head when you're in the bank setting everything up, you then might find that you've forgotten them once you get home.
As has been said, it a pain in the ass to set up if you don't have a reasonably good English speaking bank teller in your branch, but once you've done it, it's a piece of piss sending cash home. |

| I went right into the bank, and told her "internet banking" "send money home" ....No problem. After the paper work is done, it'll be 3 days she said. |

You have to sign up for internet banking at your local bank. Bring a usb stick so you can download your certificate and access your account from any pc. Second if you want to send money home with the online banking, you have to set up a Foreign Currency Overseas Remittance account. From what others have told me, this is also true of KEB. So up to you if you want to switch banks or open up a KEB Foreign Currency overseas remittance account it will be the same except KEB tends to have English Speaking tellers since they are one of the international banks.
hope this helps. I have a nongyhup account, so you can do it and as said early having the ATM access is very nice. |
