Are there any decent places in Asia that can hire you for 6 months and pay for your airfare. I don't care if it is Thailand, Taiwan, or Dubai.
Any ideas? I am done with Korea for good.

I doubt you could get a pre paid flight for six months, but you might be able to negotiate the school reimbursing you for airfare once you get there.

Also, there are some cheap air fares to Taiwan. On Asiana's website they have a web sale fare of under 350k won to Taipei, you have to sign up on their site to purchase it but that's pretty cheap. You could make that money up fast teaching in Taiwan.

Lucky you getting to leave Korea!

I guess you don't want to stay, eh? I would prefer to leave under better circumstances. Taiwan is a big unknown. I am not sure how they are like (the academies) over there.

Here's a plan for someone to try:

1. Hijack a plane using a plastic butter knife outta Incheon. Force it to fly to Somalia. This would be your free airfare.

2. Join the pirate brigade. They seem to be doing pretty well these days, as long as they aren't shooting each other.

3. Open up a pirate Hogwon so they can better communicate with the likes of the UN, Interpol, the US Navy, et.al. as they haggle over ransoms. You can even take weekend trips aboard hijackers' craft and partake in the fun. This, of course, would be the language lab portion. Grade your learners accordingly.

4. Bribe the Somali government so they don't crack down on your enterprise and ruin your plans.

5. Base tuition on percentage of haul. Bigger ransom hauls made by your 'students' bring more of a return for you. Sending 'thank you' notes to Samsung would help your cause.

Don't think this is such a wild idea. The west has allowed Somalia to fester, and now, at least out on the high seas around that country, crime DOES pay. Milk it while that applies.

I'd pay to watch this. How many minutes (or seconds) would it take a hijacker with a plastic butter knife to get his arse kicked by the other passengers?

Perhaps I have you mixed up with someone else, Adventurer, but haven't you lived in Korea for 10/15/20 years or something like that? Either something major made you snap, or little things have been building up for a while.

Well, if you have been here a while, I'll assume that you have a good stash o' cash going on. With your experience, you shouldn't have trouble finding a job. But as far as 6-month contracts? I don't know how other countries operate. Perhaps it's best to check out the non-Korean forums on here.

I'm pretty sure most countries won't pay airfare, but I'd rather shell that out myself as opposed to sticking around in a stressful situation.

Best of luck!

I have lived here for 2 1/2 years or so. It's just this past two months have seemed like 2 years with the amount of work I've had to do.
I just expected to be compensated for that, but really I would rather simply work a reasonable schedule, because I would rather have more planning time, so I can teach better than get extra cash. I am not simply motivated by earning tons of cash. What about you? I do want more money. At times, even get a little extra money is a way of showing respect vis-a-vis your staff. Hagwons wouldn't exist without the teachers.

And just think. If the won keeps dropping to where it's at about 1800, you will have worked two years for close to one year's salary, at least in dollars.

Yeap. A whole year for free. The Koreans call us "greedy bastards" at times, and here we are giving them all this free labor...sort of.

I am looking to see if I can find an hourly job where I would actually get paid good money for what I am doing. I am not ruling out staying until May or so, but I can't stay longer. I have to see my family, and I need to go home for good. Too many Koreans do not have the notion of just compensation, don't consider the currency is dropping, and just think we should just be grateful to work for them. No, we love our countries.

I do love America, I do love Canada. I didn't come to Korea, because I simply couldn't find a job in the U.S. I was having some trouble, but if I stayed around longer I would have found one. I was also offered a job to go to Iraq and get paid six figures. I decided I didn't want to do that.
Again, Tobias, it is not simply about the money. It's also about job satisfaction. I do believe a teacher should have adequate planning time and recuperation time, break time, and not simply be treated as a money generating robot, because when you do that the kids get a poorer education, as a result, and I apologized to the kids for that. However, recently they've enjoyed what I am putting into the classes, and they smiled a lot recently. I am glad.

6 figures and you didn't take 'em up on it?

6 Figures. With the economy in a landslide (which only a few of us can see, apparently), that pay looks damn good. Sign me up.
