The banks say no, no matter what my boss does to help. Any suggestions? |

Why do you want a credit card now with the economy being so bad as it is? This is not the time to go on expensive shopping sprees or buy high ticket items.
Save your money and be glad banks aren't issuing CC's. |

AS a foreigner (read TEACHER) you are NOT likely to get an unsecured credit card from a bank. Foreign corporate employees are treated differently.
IF you want an unsecured card AND you have your ARC AND you work at a UNI or Public School, apply at any of the Samsung or LG kiosks in the department stores or home-plus / samsung stores. You can also apply by phone but I don't have the number handy.
IF you work at a hakwon the ONLY choice you have is to place money in an interest bearing term deposit and use that as security (collateral) for the card at a bank. Typically the banks will give you a credit limit of about 90% of the term deposit. The good news is that you get your card in about a week.]
Call the Worri call center if you want more information:
1588-5000 extension 7 for English service.

I second the Samsung card. It's surprisingly hassel free and very quick. As the above poster mentioned I also got mine in about a week. |

Is there anything else you think the OP should do with his money? You're some helpful, yes sir. Do you have anymore advice? I'm all ears!
Maybe the OP wants a credit card for emergencies. Or maybe he wants to use it for business clubs and hookers and put himself in serious debt. Either way, it's none of your business, now is it? Come on now. Tells us whats yous thinks of this ordeals, thir. |

As I stated, not being a financial genius, SAVE YOUR MONEY and DON'T SPEND WHAT YOU GET/GOT!!! Even if I were a financial genius and knew how to get 100's of credit cards within minutes, I probably wouldn't help out cause I can see the "evil" in them. Borrowing money when you already got it is insane enough. Borrowing money when you don't have any is even more moronic.
This is in no way an attack on the OP, just stating my opinion. |

If you've read some of the other posters comments on these Korean credit cards, you'll know that they are little more than glorified debit cards. The reasons I got a Korean credit card are:
1. Online shopping.
2. Travelling abroad. (I'll take my chances with a Visa over an "international debit card" that "might" work any day)
3. T-Money chip. Never have to re-charge, ultra convienent!
None of the reasons above are because I need credit. So save your judgement for someone else. Or if you are going to be the "moral" police on these forums and decide to pass judgement on anything with potentially some evil, then I suggest you start with the casino/gambling and bar/club/drinking threads, then you can move on to credit cards, and maybe in a while to the "where can I find a nice steak" thread. |

Actually, your opinion wasn't sought for at all, so why are you giving it? Specific information was asked for: How does one go about getting a credit card?
I third the comments about the Samsung Card available to Public School and University teachers (sorry Hagwoners). I found them extremely helpful and the card was easy to get. The people whom I deal with (and I call them regularly to ask questions) are always quite professional and they speak English extremely well.
Some other benefits of Korean credit cards:
(1) If you pay 100% your monthly balance, you won't pay any interest on it. You only pay interest if you carry a balance or partial balance forward.
(2) When buying appliances and other big ticket items, you can choose to pay all at once or you can choose to pay over a set number of months. It depends on the retailer but I just bought a TV and a fridge and I am allowed to pay it off in increments over six months, interest free.
It's possible that credit card companies have these two perks back in other people's home countries, but if they were available with my card (number one certainly wasn't) then I wasn't aware of it.

Are you speaking for the original poster? LOL, even if your OPINION that I shouldn't have given it matches the OPINION of the original poster, I see nothing wrong with stating opinions. |

Never went to a shop.
Called the number, said I wanted to apply for a samsung card. She asked some questions (visa, job, where I live etc). Then asked what card I want. She then said I must fax or email or some documents (bank book and ARC). She recieved them and confirmed that she recieved them in an email and someone will be in contact shortly. A few days later another lady called me to confirm my application, and asked where I would like the card couriered to. A few days later the card arrived at my school. I made the first phonecall on Monday, and the next Tuesday or Wednesday the card was in my hand. |

When did you call? I tried calling this number, maybe about a month or so ago and the lady told me you now have to go to one of the Samsung offices and apply for a card in person. |

Techno_the_cat (love the avatar) and otherside........... good information, I have'nt looked into this for a long time due to a rejected application. I am now on an F2 and working for a public school. Based on what you are saying I should be a shoe in. What sort of information/documentation did they ask for? What level of credit limit was offered? Thanks again. |
