Hi fellow ESLers,
I am a guy and I am looking to grow my hair long. Not just long mind you, really freaking long. Down to my mid back or my bum-bum if it can be done. Right now I'm almost at shoulder length...so I'm making some headway. Anyone else rocking really long hair...if so how is it going with you? I used to rock out with my hmph out in high school with my long hair and I'm looking to relive those days here because well..basically I can. |

| Understandable....but when you are driving around listening to Slayer,...wouldn't it be cool to start headbanging when you are stopped at a red light next to a taxi ajosshi. I do it now...but it doesn't have the same effect with shorter hair. |

I had long hair in college, kept me warm in the freezing winters, but got annoying in summer.
Noone recognised me when I went back for my third year after having it cut back |

Yeah I hear ya captain. I had long hair from the age of 15 to around 19 and when I cut it....people were shocked. Now ten years later I'm looking to get it back...but this time I'm never going to cut it....ever. Not even if I make it to 90 years old and I look like the old and decrepit version of David Lopan from "Big Trouble in Little China" with the long white straggly hair...I'll still be rocking!!! |

| I'm a big fan of long hair too. I had really short hair when I came to Korea, but have grown it long for a little while now. I'm pretty much at shoulder length now, but don't want it down to the mid-back or longer. It is something you can definitely do in Korea because we're already considered odd anyway by default, so what the hell, might as well do it. |

Hey man...we must be brothers from another mother...I feel your sentiments exactly. I figure Koreans won't respect us no matter how our hair looks...so might as well do what we want. Dude we should hang out sometime. I'll play some choice metal and we'll drive around and headbang and stare at people when waiting at red lights. Also, I like to play air guitar to my favorite solos while driving so I'll count on you to take the wheel while I indulge myself. |

As for the comment about immortality...

Immortality? Thats something I could live with for the rest of my life, even if it was forever! |

Actually the immortality thing was just a tagline I added to the end of the heading because I just didn't want the title to just be "long hair." Sounds kinda dull...and also because I'm somewhat of a nutjob to be honest. |

Nothing wrong with long hair! I've had long hair for 20 years now!
Sometimes, it does effect the first impression with Koreans (others too) but I have had no problem getting past first impressions. If you decide you do not want to be a nut job I still think you can wear your hair long.
As for never cutting it, it is probably not a good idea if you want to get it down to your bum. Cut a little off the ends and your hair grows faster. If you stop cutting it, it will fall out rather than continue to grow. Good maintanance is important.
Anyway, enjoy your freak flag! |

| I have curly hair, so it grows outward instead of down. So I can't have that kind of long hair. If I grew my hair out and dyed it red I could look like Ronald McDonald. Who might be immortal, I'm not sure. |

When I first came to Korea, I worked at a hagwon where this guy from Kentucky grew a really long, Abe Liconln/mountain man beard (no mustache).
I remember him walking around Caribean bay stirtless with a super hairy chest/back scaring the hell out of children. |

Wouldn't it be so much maintenance? I'm a girl with pretty long hair, and I dread the time it takes to wash, dry, and brush it.
But why not, you should try. |
