Can anyone recommend a tailor in Itaewon or Songtan?
I want to buy a couple of suits. I've been to Hamilton in Itaewon and wasn't impressed.
Also, how many fittings should you go in for, for a custom suit? |

New York tailors in the won. I got two suits last month for 750,000 each and they are NICE! Also, the place across from the fire house is good as well..name slips my mind. I spent 3 mill there last year and those three suits will last me years. |

i've been going to the guys at new york for years. they do solid work. it pays to know what you're getting into though. have an idea about fabrics, cuts, etc., before you go in, and you'll find that you get higher quality results. |

They have many branches. Good suits. They had a 2 for 350,000 deal a while back.
Click through the store photo links. Some serious babe material working there, too! |

Thanks for the tips.
I will think of Dave's and shed a tear when destroying local and international markets in my new three piece suit and bowler hat. |

I am also looking to have a couple of suits made in the near future, so this info is usefull to me aswell. But, a further question without starting another thread.
What is a reasonable price to pay here for a reasonable suit? I know a couple of prices were quoted here, but I thought they might be a bit cheaper. I am not after top quality, just something smart and respectable for everyday wear. I have seen a place in Uijeongbu that offers 2 suits for 300,000 i think it was but want more info. |

Most of these places (Itaewon included) ship the work over to the Chungyechon area somewhere. That's what my wife told me. You can end up paying a lot more for the same quality suit, so you have to be careful.
After one bad experience, I avoid Itaewon entirely. I now buy from that Dainty store. I used to buy from http://www.othello.co.kr/ , and they were good, but now they raised their prices sky-high. |

You get what you pay for.
If you find a place that sells suits that are 2 for 300,000 won or even 1 for 300,000 won, you're going to get a bad suit, guaranteed. It's going to be made of polyester or a polyester blend, won't look good to the trained eye and won't last as long.
On the other hand, you can pay a little more and get something much better. As someone previously posted, it will help if you know exactly what you want before you go in.
Do you want 2 buttons or 3? No vent, single vent or side vents? Notch lapel or peak? You'll also have a variety of fabrics to pick from.
In terms of Itaewon, Hahn's is the best I've found. They actually have a little "sweatshop" nearby where they make your suit which means it's not outsourced. You can ask them to check it out. If you're willing to pay more, there are a couple of shops in the Intercontinental Hotel shopping arcade at COEX. Unfortunately, one of the best tailors there is moving to the U.S. soon if he hasn't already. |

Thanks for that, you are absolutly right about getting what you pay for.
Is there anywhere that sell off the peg in fabrics other than shiny grey? Just want to do a bit of homework before I charge off with a fist full of won. |

If you're willing to pay more for a custom-made suit, check the tailors around the Westin Chosun Hotel near City Hall. Their craftsmanship is higher than the ones in Itaewon but it WILL cost you. |

Han's is the best under 500,000W. You can do better but you'll need to pay more (and go to Gangnam). |

If you go to a tailor, they will have a bunch of fabrics you can choose from. The Korean fabrics will be on actual rolls whereas imported fabrics such as Loro Piana will usually be in a swatch book. Expected to pay almost double or more for a suit made from imported fabric.
The top Korean fabrics are actually very good these days. You can ask them to feel the Korean fabrics in comparison to the imported fabrics.
You may also want to look into getting an overcoat made if you don't have one. My navy cashmere overcoat is one of the best purchases I've ever made. Considering how much you use it over the winter, I think they're cheap when you calculate the cost per wear. |

I got my suits made at London Tailor, next to Helos and across from the fire station in Itaewon. They're made from Zegna cloth and, therefore, very nice. 800,000 won for the cotton suit and 1,200,000 for the wool/cashmere suit. They also do two fittings, which is a sign of a good tailor.
Of course you can get cheaper suits done there too. |
