What's the deal with the crabby attitude some posters on Dave's have?
I mean so many posters just flame each other, some attack each other for stupid reasons, and I've seen people who need help from each other and then some flame those soliciting help.................... I can understand why many people don't even want to post on the site at times. Tiger Beer was saying the foreign teachers in Japan tend to be nicer?

Tiger Beer care to weigh in on that one? How are the Dave's posters in Japan like? Are they the same?

I'm a happy camper and I start happy threads with good intentions only.
However, there's a big bunch of sour grumps in here. I'm not gonna start naming people cuz they know who they are and knowing they are unhappy makes me happy.

Anyway, I'm here to spread some joy and sunshine.
Be nice to each other! Behave. Show some class!

Oh it's true, oh it's so true, it's so damn freaking kick ass 100% WORD true!

I'm afraid to answer for fear that I might get flamed.

I wouldn't flame you, but I sure would light a fire and give you some hot dogs and say enjoy it like it's the 4th of July:)

Cheers to the good, nice posters...

Huge volumes of traffic not any real sense of community and poorly moderated.

4chan has a better sense of community.

You can be totally anonymous here. Start a thread calling everyone a cocksucker and it gets removed two days later nobody remembers.....

M-Su likes a lot of attention, I think, so it makes him feel like a happy camper, though his works of art, so to speak, get binned. He produces so much of his art, so he doesn't seem to care if some of it is removed...

It's the same "happy" thread revisited every single time. If you have seen one you have seen them all.

I'm going to go out on a limb here, but I'm guessing that he is going on 2 dates today with the hottest girls and will be back here posting about how "awesome" he is before the sun goes down. It's a shot in the dark on my behalf, I know.

It's the internet, where many people are assholes because they can be. Face to face they cannot be, or they'd get their asses kicked, or lose their jobs. It's actually a good thing. I reckon society stigmatizes anger and aggression as "bad," except perhaps in sports (and driving), leaving not much of an outlet for frustration and stress. The internet helps provide an extra outlet and people take advantage of it.

Either this theory is correct, or many people are simply just assholes but have to hide the fact to function in the everyday world of so-called civilized people. Maybe a bit of both.

I sometimes play a card game called "hearts" on yahoo games. Some of the players are very nasty and rude.

I have a suspicion most or at least many people think they are superior. Plus a lot of people are just sociopaths.

Oh, and let's not forget: some people are just miserable.

Message boards like Dave's have become the proverbial "punching bag" and soapbox of the modern times.

The honest truth from...

www.youtube.com/bundangbear

The average person that comes to Korea uses Dave's as a jumping off pint, then either gets immersed in Korea, goes out and parties, and gradually forgets about Dave's, or, comes to hate Korea, becomes extremely lonely and introverted, and uses Dave's as a place to vent frustration, anger, and the fact they are someplace they don't really want to be.

This causes anger and mental illness, as in the case of okokok. Seriously, anyone still really active on Dave's after 6 months in Korea is just plain not fitting in, for the most part. There are many exceptions, of course.

I was on Dave's for the first six moths I was here, then totally forgot about it as I built a wonderful life. Why am I back? I found comments about me, as I make Youtube vids, and had to see what people were saying about me!

though you are correct in stating that people use Dave's as a resource, it is incorrect to say it is a "jumping off point"

many things need to be clarified for people thinking of coming over here and what reality they will face (especially now with the exchange rate)

reading posts of people venting real problems after six months when they are still locked into contracts is good for those thinking of coming to SK - sure they can eventually leave - but let's see what is really going on

your job from your profile says you are a copyeditor - that is very different from being a public school teacher - your comment about posters on Dave's

Hey now nuthatch,

Don't think I'm some elitist who looks down on English teachers, because I used to be one. I sweated in the trenches as a hogwon teacher for 2 years, so I know the gig. I once worked mornings at a yuchiwon from 9 to 1 and evenings at a hogwon from 3 to 10, so I've been there. I've only been a copy editor for the last few months.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. At least on youtube, I can actually see the people harassing me !
