I need to put together a budget for a five- or six-week stay in London in July-August 2009.

If I were to seek a cheapish motel or renting a studio or a room from someone's home or flat, eat economically, and travel by the tube, what, more or less, would kind of expense would this entail, in American dollars?

Thank you.

I also want to clarify that I am not going as a backpacker but as a researcher. I have no contacts there at the moment. So I would appreciate anyone with any specific recommendations as far as accommodations go.

Know any good short-term rental referral services or hotels in London?

This site suggests prices range from approximately twenty to eighty pounds per night? So I might budget my hotel expenses at, say, sixty or sixty-five pounds per night for a grant proposal? Does that sound correct?

Check to see if there is any universities that offer summer accomodation for vistors/traveller. Some do during break times when students do not use on campus housing.

London is an Incredible city, probably my favourite 'big city' in the world.
But dang, pound for pound it's probably the most expensive, moreso than Tokyo and New York I feel.

Nice pic of Magnum in your avatar.

So, then, what kind of general estimate might you suggest for a five- or six-week stay there in July-August, stated in American dollars? $3500-$4000 sufficient to cover room, board, public transportation?

check out the London Visitors Hotel Holland Road Kensington. Beautiful, expensive part of London but they'll do you a cheap box room and will negotiate for a 5-6 week commitment. it's extremely central. absooolutely no frills though!

All right. I have a specific place: Ken Gardens. Walking distance to the PRO.

Nice neighborhood?
