Police rape lies get artist 10 months
October 23, 2008
A 37-year-old Korean man who spread false rumors on the Internet that police officers had raped a female demonstrator has been sentenced to 10 months in jail and two years of probation. The Seoul Central District Court also imposed 160 hours of mandatory community service on the man, a local artist identified only by the surname Kim.

Yesterdays sentencing was part of a recent flurry of court decisions against people who disseminated lies or launched aggressive Internet campaigns at the height of this summers nationwide demonstrations against the governments decision to restart imports of American beef.

We find Kim guilty for joining a Web site with a fake identity in order to post two articles that falsely claimed the riot police raped the rally participant, the court said at Kims sentencing.

He was fully aware that his post was untrue, but he even went so far as to fabricate pictures to support the false argument, posing a great danger to society.

Since Kim has no criminal history and showed remorse for his actions, the sentence was relatively light.

As the dust settled after the rallies, the court has punished several groups and individuals that took part.

So, tell a lie about the police, get 10 months in prison. Sexually abuse a student in your public school, get 10 months in prison (if you are Korean).

Sparkling.
