|
|
There's a brand new website called XTranormal that allows you to create/direct from scratch computer-generated video clips. It's so super-fast to make a CGI cartoon conversation that I started using it to make the dialogs from my High School textbook.
I showed the animations to some of my co-teachers, and it blew their minds. It's just so much fun turning these boring dialogs and scripts into animated interactions between computer-generated characters.
I'm itching to try this in the classroom when my students return from their field trip on Monday.
You can find my example video, screenshots, and complete illustrated instructions on my website. |

Looks useful. Thanks for sharing.
I'll have a play around with it this evening. |

Wow, that's really easy. Takes no longer than a PPT slide. How do you get it in colour?
The voice recognition needs some work though. Sounds like being at home with the Hawkins. |

Haha, porn is a little difficult since you can't actually make the characters touch each other (as far as I know).
You are, however, aided by the fact that you can choose to put the characters into their underwear. You can also make them perform various maneuvers, such as the "all this could be years" open hand gesture. |

Frustrating... can't get it to work right. Text won't show up when I type in the bubble. |

Bassexpander, which browser/version are you using? I've been successful with Firefox3, but haven't tried it with other browsers yet.
The site is still in early Beta, so perhaps they'd screwed something up just as you were coming in to use it. |

I spent ages last night trying to do a remake of the Al Pacino, Bob De Niro cafe scene from the movie Heat. Suffice to say, it crashed horribly and I lost everything.
I'm going to guinea pig it in the classroom on Friday in my girls 1st grade MS class. I found yesterday, whilst working on my ill fated 'epic', that the text you type in (punctuation etc) has quite a bearing on the quality of the speech delivered. Also, make use of the pauses as they tend to speak too quickly.
It seems to play back okay through Windows Media Player, so you can save into that and then USB it.

Me too. To save, I used that Real Player 'Download This Video' option which pops up when you hover over video clips. |

I just sent in a support request email to let them know about these problems folks have been experiencing.

Dear Xtranormal,
Thank you for making a fantastic website. I am an ESL Teacher in Korea, and have used your service to animate the boring dialogs in our English textbooks. This worked like a charm for me.
[...]I posted a link to this on the Korean ESL Teacher's forums [...]
Many users got just as excited as I did about the teaching possibilities using Xtranormal.com, but a few have been experiencing technical problems with your website and have been posting these problems to the forums. Here are some:
[...]
I realize that your website is still in Beta, and I make this clear when responding to people's problems with it. However, I wanted to drop you a line and let you know about these issues and maybe get your official response to post on the ESL forums.
[...]
Best Regards |

Dear Xtranormal,
Any chance you can make the girls skirts shorter and their breasts bigger? Also, could you develop a male Korean English-teacher type character and make him really stupid so as to make using xtranormal in the context of Korean classrooms as true to life as possible.
Muchos appreciatos. |
