Doesn't the SMOE contract require reimbursement within 14 days - the GEPIK one does. |

I got mine in mid-November (last year).
As I remember, it was the school that paid me back. Keep asking about it till it happens...might just be a case of someone not knowing the procedure, as that was the problem at my school. |

If it helps you, I flew out of Korea on my own dime in August and got reimbursed with my August paycheck. I went through my district supervisor and was paid through my school. This is better than the SMOE office who loses paperwork, doesn't return emails, doesn't understand the contract (talking to you Jon Park) and is awful to deal with. They are understaffed and the head NSET coordinator is great, but the peons working in the office are often rude and incompetent. |

I came Sept 1 and was told my school just received the money for the reimbursement last week so I should have gotten it with my paycheck on Friday. |

Yeah, that was what I was told by my CT as well, but low and behold, it was not included in Friday's pay. |

In Korea, you have to be proactive, especially about money. Bring it up. If an unreasonable amount of time goes by, then your school has essentially broken your contract. Refusing to teach should be almost the last resort, while filing a lawsuit with the Ministry of Labor the absolute last resort.
Good luck. |

If you paid USD, demand USD. If they want to pay in KRW, demand the amount at the time you purchased it or at the current exchange rate. There's no reason for you to have to be burdened because they took their time reimbursing you. |

Are you sure that the reason for the apparent "double dipping' on pension/healthcare is because you have been reimbursed for your airfare at the same time as your pay? I ask that because assuming that just being remimbursed for your airfare implies to me that you are in your first couple of months in the country. And at least for medical insurance you have to pay for a full month's worth of payment for each month you are here ... so even if you are only here for a couple of days in your first month you still have to pay for that full month ... That can mean that the first or second time you are paid you are charged for the equivalent of 2 months of the payments ... I was confused the first time that it happened to me ... But that is how the system is supposed to work ... So I wouldn't necessarily blame the airfare payment for that happening ... It is more likely to just be the normal process of starting up ... |
