Has anyone gone to Costco lately? I'd like to go to pick up some things, but I'm concerned that the prices have gone up even more due to the exchange rate. I'll keep eating Korean if a trip to Costco is going to break the bank.

Quite simply, yes. The cheese, chicken, tuna, etc. have all increased significantly.

The price of cereal is way up. You know the bags of granola that are sold in twos? The price is now 19,000. I can't remember the exact price before but there's no way I'm paying that much for cereal.

I went there last week for the first time and noticed that prices seemed a bit higher than I was expecting. I wanted Eggo waffles badly, so I paid the price, but it did seem somewhat high at the time.

I knew the prices were going to go up, and tried to get in there just after the Won took the hit, but Costco wasted no time jacking up the price on everything imported.

Yeah lots of things seem more expensive.

Chicken breasts used to be good value there, but they're cheaper in my local supermarket now. The salami and other meats seem way higher than before.

What does seem good value is the boxes of thai curry (red or green) for less than 5,000won. Each box has 5 sachets and each sachet is enough for 2 meals if you put enough vegetables and meat etc. in. Can anyone else recommend some good value stuff at Costco?

I think I would pay up to $20 for that. You get 2 lbs of granola and its really good quality. I eat that every morning for breakfast, and occasionally eating the Quaker Instant Oatmeal packets I also got from Costco.

I got that on Gmarket for 16,000 2 weeks ago, but today it's 25,900 won. Most all that American stuff on Gmarket is from Costco as there's no other supplier other than US Army bases. And prices are going into hyper inflation mode here and at home. This mix of economics were seeing today is almost the worst possible other than total system failure where there's no money moving, nothing in the bank due to devaluation, and no planes flying.

Yeah, cheese is ridiculous now. I've noticed it pretty much across the board.

Cheese went up in price during the melamine scare. It used to be 7,500 per block, now it's 11,400.

Van Islander-
People discussing the price of food. Good gawd. Too boring for you?
Maybe if you had contact with people, instead of non-stop Daves' bitterness, you'd realize that's what people do. Especially with the economy the way it is. Ask a Korean about the current price of rice, for example. Unless you pride yourself on eating twigs and berries a la Thoreau, the price of food affects everyone. Of course, you might be that guy.
Regardless, you come off as really bitter. Beat it.
