Last Friday I was told my school was closing tomorrow, today I was told today that it isn't closing after all. Tomorrow was supposed to be my last day, I was supposed to get my release letter today and I was supposed start a new job in January. So the clincher is that I will have to work part-time at my current school and part-time at another. I've read the postings about the procedure and know that it can be done. But, do I have a choice?
Now I'm in a totally different situation because if I don't want to do this then I am the one ending my contract early not the school. I've worked six months and a couple of days so that means I have to give them a month's notice too. PLUS they say they have no money now and are in great debt so how can I be sure I won't be in the same boat next month! BLAH!!!
Has anyone been fired and rehired in the same week? |

A very worrisome situation for sure.
It seems your present boss may just be trying to delay the inevitable at your expense. Their initial decision to close the school and their own admission of debt and insolvency spell certain doom.
I would suggest that your priority is to get them to acknowledge this and persuade them as nicely and as reasonably as you can (difficult, I know) to dismiss you on the grounds of insolvency and to give you a letter of release that clearly states the same. I would do so without delay.
I don't know what your boss is like or what kind of relationship you have with him, but there's probably not much chance of getting paid for any additional time you put in there, and consider the possibility that he may simply abandon you in the near future with no letter of release either.
Even if it means foregoing the job you have lined up for January, you should concentrate your efforts on getting out of your present contract with a valid letter of release now. It will be far less stressful to think about finding another job when you are actually in a position to accept one without any obstacles and when your prospective employer knows that you can start your new job legally and beyond any doubt. |

Did your boss give you anything in writing to say that you were being fired? |
