A member of my family who used to work as a foreign exchange banker in London has advised me to open a bank account here that will let me save in Us dollars. Is this possible? I've no idea how to do this so any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Yes, I have two USD accounts with Kookmin Bank. One is an ordinary account, and one is a time deposit (similar to a CD). It's very easy to set up, it's just a matter of filling out an application. If there is someone at your bank who speaks halfway decent English, you won't even need to bring a Korean person with you.

By the way, the front cover of my bank book says: 국민외화종합통장

I'm not proficient in Korean and I don't know what that means, but if you show it to the person at the bank, maybe they will understand what you're looking for.

Best thing I did when I went to korea in 94"was to open a dollar account. When I left last month I didnt lose money exchanging at 1.360w. Right now I dont think it would be a good idea to open a dollar account unless you are getting paid in dollars or are bringing dollars. Exchange will kill you.
