Anyone get in major Poker Tournaments Online? Which sites do you use?
Last year, UltimateBet had an ARUBA one, if you qualified through several tourneys, and won a monthly one, you'd be sent to Aruba! This year, they don't seem to have one yet.
Any others out there? Anyone trying to qualify for any of these major poker tourneys through freerolls online? Which sites to you use? |

"Major" ? I play in a few at Poker Stars but nothing over $5 buy-in. I've played in a ton of Freerolls but they're basically a joke. I mean, 10,000 players? I don't care how good you are, you've got to get seriously lucky to finish high enough to qualify for the Qualifier tournement later in the week. Then you've got to win that one to actually get the seat at the World Series of Poker, or whatever the prize is that week.
I've finished in the top 27 in a number of Free Rolls and got to play in a Qualifier but never managed to actually win anything. |

Over on UltimateBet they have freerolls. Maximum 3000 people, but during our Pacific Asia evenings (it is like 4am on Eastern Coast, North America), and only about 1000-1500 people have entered.
I've been able to place in about 15 qualifier type tournaments to be played at the end of the week. But never get very far with those.
I see that PokerStars has a major tournament in Macau, and have freeroll qualifiers for this September. But I really dislike the PokerStars setup. |

PokerStars has the most friendly tourneys for our time zone. They have quite a few freerolls for APPT Events. Right now I believe they are running them for the event in Manila next month.
Ultimate Bet has a few, but like you said, the times are not very convenient for those of us in Asia. |

I've been having a great month on Pokerstars.
Prior to this month, my "career" winnings have been around $1500.
Played in two $109 tourneys, won the 1st netting $3870, second one reached the final table, and when we hit heads up are stacks were pretty even so we cut a deal and split the pot, netting $3663.
I also played in an $11+R tourney and from a field of 850+ managed to finish 12th. This one was a bit painful as pokerstars has a VERY steep prize distribution. (top 127 made the money, with 127th netting ~about $60, 12th got $300, yet by 6th the prize was over a $1000.) I was also looking very good until I got bullied out a few times, made a bad call and then was badbeated.
Admittadly, I've lost quite a bit this month too, after the first big win I had a bit of a bankroll which allowed me to take a few chances and play more tournies than I would otherwise. I'm up about $7000 this month
For the record, I have an abyssmal record in freerolls. With a field of 10-12000 SO much luck is required and there are just too many cowboys. I think i've made the top 1000 once out of 10 cracks. |
